10 year old dies of maneater ‘” leopard”s attack in Paabo Block of Pauri, Garhwal, Uttarakhand
The incessant leopard attacks on human lives in Garhwal n Kumaon Uttarakhand has become the order of the day.
Though majority of the agricultural fields in the interior villages have gone vacant n barren due to loss of man power as a result of myriad migration n the converted into jungles, the wild animals particularly the man eater leopards have arrived near human habitats posing a direct threat to human lives especially to women n girls who still work on farm lands to manage their sustenance.
While the environment ministries of the centre and state governments are seriously concerned about protecting n conserving wild life, especially the togers, cheetas n leopards terming them as endangered spieces, they are least bothered for the safeguards n security of the vulnerable village populace who are the direct victims of these maneaters having killed hundreds n thousands of inhabitants in villages, roadsides n even in towns of Uttarakhand.
The maximum easy prey of these maneaters are the school going children, women n the old aged.
While the senior officials are regularly enjoying foreign tours every year under the guise of seeking training of protecting the wild life at the cost of pubic exchequer, there is no initiative or endeavour to tranquilise the maneaters, catch or trap them inorder to ensure the safety n security of the common man living in Uttarakhand hills.
Due to increasing jungle fires, especially during the summers leading to complete damage to flora and fauna, the increasung construction activities like projects of road widening etc the wild animals are completely insecure n devoid of flesh within the jungles n there fore come near human settlements in search of human flesh.
According to senior journalist of Pauri Garhwal, Anil Bahuguna just yesterday on 27th May a maneater leopard had ponced upon a ten year old adolescent girl at Paabo block of Pauri Garhwal and tore her throat by his killer jaws diabollically killing the girl on the spot who was declared dead by the hospital authorities.
The deceased had come home from her school and thereafter had accompanied her mother to the agricultural field when all of a sudden the leopard pounced on her dragging her few feet away tightly grabbed with its killer jaws.
Her desperate mother was also injured trying to get rid her daughter from the maneater’s grab. Three women had to literally fight with the leopard to snatch the grievously injured girl from the maneaters grab.
By the time she was relieved from the maneater’s control she was motionless n dead. Such is the tragedy of village women n children working in agricultural fields of Uttarakhand for their survival.
