18 year old BSC student of Pauri, Garhwal succumbs to excessive burn injuries at Safdarjung Hospital

There is an extremely shocking n most unfortunate news that the young girl in her teens, student of BSc from Pauri Garhwal district, Neha Negi who was addmitted in the Burns Ward of Safdarjung Hospital with more than 70% burn injuries after she was pre meditatedly immolated by a thirty two year old married man, also stalking her since long, has breathed her last in the hospital today.

Sources reveal that excessively burnt 18 year old Neha Negi, a student of BSC succumbed to death due to the excessive burn injuries in the burns ward of Safdarjung Hospital after maximum efforts of the doctors concerned to revive her failed.

Neha Negi was immolated by a thirty two year old man of her own village in Pauri Garhwal namely Bunty a week ago creating an outrage in the entire district n Uttarakhand with college students and the local populace holding demonstrations demanding stringent punishment to the culprit.

It is believed that this whimsical married man had been stalking her for long and despite several reminders from the girl, did not stop his unlawful act of stalking her. He finally immolated her on the way in Pauri Garhwal resulting in more than 70% burns.

She was addmitted in the local hospital n thereafter at AIIMS Rishikesh but after her health condition started badly deteriorating she was brought to the burns ward of Safdarjung hospital where after two days of treatment she breathed her last today.

There is tremendous shock wave n outrage within the Uttarakhand community in Uttarakhand and Delhi. The culprit is however behind the bars having addmitted immolating the girl after sprinkling petrol on her.

What is more shocking about this whole episode is that not a single public representative or the lawmaker from Uttarakhand took the pain to visit the hospital in order to provide psychological strength, moral support or financial assistence to the bereaved family. It was the Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha delegation which met her mother in the hospital yesterday evening n presented a cheque of Rs. 20000 as a meagre help.

Uttarakhand Journalists Forum condemns this most barbaric incident in strongest possible terms, demanding nothing less then a death penalty terming it one of the rarest of the rare cases of a most gruesome and diabolical murder reminding us of the 2012 cases of Nirbhaya of Vasant Vihar Delhi n Nirbhaya of Najafgarh late Kiran Negi.

It also demanded a financial compensation of Rs. fifty lakhs from the state government at the earliest.

Sunil Negi hails from Uttarakhand and is a veteran journalist and author. He is a prolific writer and has carved a name for himself in the media world. He received the 'Golden Achiever Award' in the '90th AIAC Excellence Awards 2019' for his book ''Havoc in Heaven'' based on the tragedy that struck Uttarakhand in which thousands of people lost their lives.
