In all honesty, this article is something the author had been looking forward to write for a while now. And why not? It’s the 90’s!!! If you were born in the late 80’s or the 90’s decade, you would remember jamming to most of these songs, all of them iconic in their own right. So let’s take off to this journey of nostalgia and the 90’s ‘swag’. Indian Pop Music that will take you back in time –

Made in India

Perhaps the most iconic of them all, it’s hard not to start this ride with Alisha Chinai’s song Made in India. The song, the music video and of course Milind Soman in his prime… this 1995 bop can be considered as the forerunner of Indian Pop era.
But as iconic as it may be, it is actually quite hilarious when you watch it now after 24 years. The song uses every imaginable cliché with a cheesy storyline and oh the lyrics… but that’s one of its charms I guess. Re-watch it… you won’t regret. **evil smirk**

And of course, the song that went viral before going viral was even a thing! Daler Mehndi’s 1998 song is nothing short of a legend even now. The music and the choreo (which people can still be seen copying) and not to forget the visuals! This internationally loved song can still make you dance to its beat.

1999 song by Aryans and it featured…. You know it…. Shahid Kapoor! But this regular on the list of ‘World’s Most Handsome Man’ was really, really young then and adorable too!

We still dance to this one no matter the occasion- Jasbir Jassi’s 1998 song and yet another one you can’t help but love, even after over 20 years.

And no list about Indian music is ever complete without one or two (or a dozen) songs by Falguni Pathak. She ruled the 90’s with songs like Maine Payal Hai Chankai (1995) and Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi (1999), which featured Riya Sen and she still rules our garba playlists!

Yaaron

1999’s song from movie Rockford, KK’s Yaaron is still pretty much the friendship anthem… at least for us 90’s kids. I mean no school farewell party was ever complete if someone or the other didn’t sing this song. It still pretty much brings up warm feelings and nostalgia with it. Truly a song that takes you back in time.

Purani Jeans

So if school had Yaaron as its anthem, college had Purani Jeans. This 1993 song by Ali Haider can be considered one of a kind with its simple tune on the guitar and the lyrics that speak to the listener.

Shubha Mudgal’s 1999 song which boasts of some really strong vocals, this one too, will you make you move!

We talking about 90’s and not about Euphoria? Not possible! Euphoria was one of the most popular bands (maybe still is) owing to its numerous bops. Like who can forget the song Gali, which featured Vidya Balan or Maeri featuring Rimi Sen. But their 1998 song Dhoom Pichak feat Shubha Mudgal, from their first ever album, is still a favorite of many.
