PAK newspapers claims that US trying to resolve Indo-Pak water treaty issue
Pakistan has claimed that US has already started its procedure to intervene between the Indo- Pak Indus water treaty row.
The Pakistani papers are publishing this news and are very confident that India will get pressurized from US and the US has taken this step of resolving the matter without waiting for a formal invitation.
What is the issue about Indus water treaty?
India is building two hydroelectric plants; Kishanganga and Ratle on the Indus river system and Pakistan do not want this to happen and wants US to intervene on this issue raised by them.
Pakistan feels that if these plants are built then it will breach the Indus waters treaty which was signed between India and Pakistan in 1960 and was brokered by the World Bank.
Last week US Secretary John Kerry called Pakistan finance minister Ishaq Dar and told him that they wanted an amicable solution of the issue.
Ishaq informed the Pakistani newspapers that Kerry told him that World Bank informed him about Pakistan’s complaint in the World Bank about Indus Water treaty.
Pakistan has become quite happy after Kerry called their finance minister and they appreciate US support and legal position of Islamabad on the IWT and it is the responsibility of World Bank to make sure that India honoured treaty.
