While monsoon rains have created havoc in the economic capital of the country Mumbai badly affecting the peoples’ lives bringing entire Mumbai to stand still, in Uttarakhand’s several areas too the monsoon rains have created immense difficulties for the people resulting in three unfortunate deaths.
In Kotdwar, Pauri Garhwal three persons have died due to electrocution as the electrity wires created short circuit spreading the current in the water collected due to heavy rains.
The chief minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed his extreme sorrow and grief over the three untimely deaths at Kashirampur, Kotdwara, Pauri Garhwal due to electrocution in the rain water.
He directed the district magistrate of Pauri Garhwal to pay the requisite financial compensation to the bereaved families at the earliest and initiate immediate steps to ensure that such tragedies do not recur in the immediate future.
He also ordered for changing all the old and faulty electric lines in view of the ongoing monsoon season.
According to the latest news reports, on Tuesday morning Kotdwar was under the horrific attack of torrential rainfall and storm resulting in the rivulets of Kotdwar overfilling with rain water with massive tides.
The overflowing rain water entered the houses at Koudiya and Aam Padhaav areas of Kotdwar resulting in losses in lakhs of rupees.
Three persons died after being electrocuted due to spreading of current in the rainwater.
Similarly in Dehradun and Rishikesh the first day heavy monsoon rains created havoc with overflowing water entering the houses causing damage to articles and properties.
In Rishikesh to Uttarkashi , Hindolakhal road there was traffic jam for hours together due to heavy landslide.
The Badrinath Road was also closed due to landslies at several places creating immence traffic snarls and inconvenience and hardships to the pilgrims, tourists and residents.
However, due to the arrival of monsoon the people of the hill state and its surroundings did experienced the pleasent weather and relief from hot and sweltering summer.
The metereological department has issued forecast of heavy rains till July three in the Garhwal region.
According to the latest metereological prediction 7 districts of Uttarakhand and Nainital, Champawat and Pauri would witness tremendous rainfall till 7th July.
Alerts have been issued everywhere and the chief minister Trivendra Rawat had convened a special meeting of senior officers of all the concerned departments to expedite their efforts and official machinery to ensure that there is no casualty (death) due to monsoon rains. He asked them to keep him informed about district wise feed back every week without fail.

This is extremely sad and scary.
Wires with high insulation of good quality should be used to prevent leakage of electric currents and time to time checking of leakages and faults should be done regularly to prevent such incidences. Authority should be accountable. Public awareness is equally important to alert the authorities if there are any discripancies
