The incidents of maneater leopard attacks and subsequent brutal deaths have become the order of the day in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand.

More than 450 leopards have been declared maneaters in Uttarakhand.
Every third day such  bloody tragedies are on the news headlines of the newspapers and breaking news in the entire television channels of Uttarakhand but there is hardly any credible effort by the wild life and forest department to control these carnivorous deaths.
Majority of the school going children, women working in isolated agricultural fields and senior citizens commuting on isolated roads have been the constant victims of these carnivorous predators.
According to a conservative estimates more than 1000 persons have been killed by these maneaters who are on the look out for human flesh in view of the dearth of pet animals like dogs, cows, chickens and bullocks in the villages and towns near agricultural fields as migration has led to villages becoming devoid of human population.
However, after a long time, the otherwise incompetent and negligence forest department officials have finally proved successful to capture one such horrible maneater in Pairi Garhwal district near Paabo township.
According to the news pouring in, a maneater has on July 5 th made a mentally retarded person its prey killing him on the spot after eating several parts of his body most brutally. It  left behind his badly mutilated body.
This unfortunate and horrifying  incident occured on 5th July near Chaplori village under Paabo block in Pauri Garhwal.
The mentally retarded deceased worked in a hotel in Paabo town and was returning home after being off from duty.
The inhabitants living in Paabo township and nearby, especially the students of the inter collge where this mishappening occured were in immense panic.
There was a curfew type situation in the entire area as people were asked to confine themselves within four walls in the evening after 6 PM.
As a result of repeated complaints from the residents and as a sequel to the killing of the mentally retarded person there was immense pressure on the forest department officials.
The professional tiger hunters were called and the forest department officials fixed/ laid several ” iron cages”   at various locations in the forest area near Paabo town, especially, near the vicinity where the killing occured.
After three days of constant monitoring, today  morning,  the maneater leopard was captured in the “iron cage ” of the forest department.
The residents of Paabo and the surrounding areas including the forest department and the local police finally heaved a sigh of relief.
The captured horrible maneater leopard has been sent to the Damdeval forest range for necessary action.
