New Generation of Youth Icons: YouTubers take the lead!

Since its inception in 2005, YouTube has been a source of infotainment worldwide. 14 years later and now it has evolved into a platform for people to voice out their opinions. A platform to tell their stories in the most intriguing manner in the form of video blogs, catering to the tastes of a wide variety of audience.

The youth of today that believes in speaking out and is always on the lookout for something new, makes a large portion of this audience. It is no wonder then that the majority of this content-driven platform focuses on the voices of the young and the people delivering it to them are just as young, passionate and full of new ideas.

New Generation Icons

Bhuvan Bam, known for his mega popular YouTube channel BB KI VINES, won the award for the ‘Global Entertainer of the Year 2019’ in the first edition of World Blogger Awards held in May 2019 in Cannes. His short film ‘Plus Minus’ also took the lead for the ‘Filmfare People’s Choice Award for Best Short Film’.

In an interview, he said that most of the characters he plays in his skits are evolved from the people he observed in his surroundings and this is what makes his content realistic as well as relatable. It comes as little surprise that he is the first you-tuber to reach over 10 million subscribers!

Another name that comes to mind, when we talk about youth influencers, is that of Prajakta Koli of the famous channel MostlySane. Her song ‘Shameless’ with the tag #ipledgetobeme has garnered more than 7.6 million views till date.

She was one of the youth icons to speak at the UN Headquarters in New York on the International Tolerance Day in November, 2018. On the same occasion, her song ‘No Offence’ (12 M views on YouTube) was played.

That’s not all folks…

But these are just a couple of names from a whole generation of social media stars. They not only raise major and minor issues prevalent in India but also provide a platform to speak up to millions of youngsters.

With content that’s not only entertaining and hilariously creative as well, these YouTube icons send a very important message to everyone watching –
