Former Director-General of Indian Coast Guard Rajendra Singh has been appointed as the Minister of State (Disaster Management)

The former Director-General of Indian Coast Guard Rajendra Singh has been appointed as the minister of state ( Disaster Management) by the chief minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat.

Former DG Indian Coast Guard Rajendra Singh, a dedicated officer with impeccable integrity having served the Indian Coast Guard for a long stint has recently retired from his post as DG ICG. Prior to his retirement Rajendra Singh has been credited with opening a full-fledged recruitment center in Uttarakhand for the aspiring youths interested to join ICG from Uttarakhand, Himachal, and Haryana.

Rajendra Singh has succeeded Vice Admiral HCS Bisht on March 1st, 2016. He served as DG Indian Coast Guard till 2019. Besides the distinction of being the first three-star rank officer of the Indian Coast Guard directly reporting to the union defence minister with an outstanding track record, Rajendra Singh is privileged to be the first Coast Guard Officer to assume the significant position as the Director-General.

The first holder of the position of DG ICG. After retirement, this would be Rajendra Singh’s first important assignment in the government of Uttarakhand ruled by the Bhartiya Janata Party, usually held by politicians of the party in power. It’s a highly responsible position though there is also a separate department of disaster management of the state. But Uttarakhand being the hill state prone to natural calamities, the responsibility of Disaster Management body becomes all the more significant.
