“Basketball is not a sport, it is a feeling.”

Though not as popular as other sports (cricket, *cough cough*), Basketball has its little fanbase in India. We jump up on our seats with every basket, we celebrate or cry with the players, and get ready for every NBA season with more excitement than the year before.

It is a fact that deciding who is to be at the top is no easy task. Many iconic players played in different generations with different rules and technologies. So compiling a list consisting of all of them is no walk in the park.

Anyway, let’s get the ball rolling on this one, shall we?

Psst, another thing, we won’t be ranking them so you can go ahead and do that for us.

KOBE BRYANT (1996-2016):

bryant

He is the only player to have two retired jersey numbers by the same organization. He was an icon in all sports, not just basketball. As an ambassador of the 2000s, he was an essential part of the sports world. He was also known as a successor to the legendary Micheal Jordan, owing to his game style, and popularity.

LARRY BIRD (1979-1992):

Basketball's Larry Bird - Hard Work Trumps Tech & Environment ...

Larry Bird is a three-time league MVP and a three-time NBA champion. he is unquestioned and highly respected in the world of hoops. He has excellent basketball knowledge and his shooting abilities undoubted. As of 2020, Bird is the only person in NBA history to be named Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, NBA Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year. WOW!

LEBRON JAMES (2003-Present):

He has been steadily building his case towards being the “Best of all times”.

He has proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with by giving his best performance despite injuries (16th League game). LeBron James is a four-time NBA MVP, an honor no doubt. LeBron is undoubtedly the best basketball player in the world at the moment.

KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR (1969-1989):

Why Doesn't Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Get Included in the G.O.A.T ...

This human invented the legendary skyhook shot! For anyone who follows basketball like a religion, this is something they just want to be able to copy. He has won the NBA MVP award a record-setting six times in his career. He was one of the best players in the league in the 70s.

STEPH CURRY (2009–Present):

curry

Curry could very well be an amazing inspiration to anyone in the sports world. He has improved his efficiency rating by more than any ruling MVP in history.

Curry has been named NBA MVP two times and has three championships under his name. He made all of us fall in love with him with his amazing three-point shots. And that’s not all, he is also a six-time NBA All-star. Cool, right?

MICHAEL JORDAN (1985-2003):

jordan

Okay, I will agree, I am biased towards this man. If this was a countdown list, this is the place for him. He is LEGEN-wait-for-it-DARY! His aggressive nature, high flying dunks, wagging tongue, and the winning mindset is a legend in basketball. He has won 5 NBA MVP awards and is an NBA All-star for 14 times! Michael Jordan truly is the greatest of all time and is the best basketball player ever.

So this is it for today’s issue. Though unarguably, there are many famous names in the sport, that’s a story for another day. For now, all hail the champions!
