The Treat, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi and the Press Club of India

The staff of a food van THE TREAT run by a die hard fan of the super star of yesteryears and ex member of parliament from elite New Delhi constituency Rajesh Khanna has been delivering 300 to 400 or even more food packets to the poor and hapless laborers and migrant families at Chanakyapuri near Maitreyi college since imposition of the lockdown, to people who had been stranded there without job.

The Press Club of India situated at the Raisina Road in New Delhi is also distributing 800 food packets daily to various NGOs who distribute them to the needy persons in various parts of Delhi. According to Vipin Oberoi, the owner of The Treat food Van situated at diplomatic area behind Jesus and Mary College in Chanakyapuri was usually visited by super star and ex MP Rajesh Khanna while in Delhi who also used to occasionally dine there along with friends as he loved the vegetarian and non vegetarian delicacies of The Treat.

This popular food van decorated with Kaka’s pictures and constantly running large sized LED with his visuals and favorite movie songs was inaugurated in a glittering function years ago. The Treat commemorates Kaka’s birth and death anniversaries every year by organizing musical evenings in July and December months and paying rich tributes to this legendary super star including serving free lunch to hundreds of the poor and hapless persons. When Kaka used to be in Delhi, he too used to provide langars to poor people and his fans during his birthday every year.

Till now, hundreds of thousands of construction workers stranded in Chanakyapuri due to the dreaded pandemic lockdown including the poor families are being served food packets daily, approx. to around 400 people per day since day one of the imposition of the lockdown by The Treat. Similarly the Press Club of India is delivering over 800 to 1000 food packets and fruits daily since the lockdown. Indeed a noble initiative. It may be recalled that the Press Club of India is completely closed for the last 54 days and has suffered badly due to losses due to the zero sales of liquor, lunches and dinners. It’s paying salaries to its staff who are busy preparing food for about one thousand persons daily since day one of the imposition of the lockdown.
