Fake message on whatsapp compels Uttarakhand govt to issue written denial

Social networking sites have various ramifications. If they are good for mental churning cases of its misuse or spreading rumours have also increased manifold. This leads to sensible people losing faith in the virtual world of facebook, whatsapp and twitter.

Though there had been hundreds of examples of such blatent misuse of this virtual media but a recent message in facebook and whatsapp that went viral led to hundreds of thousands of people living in cities and metropolises hailing from Uttarakhand becoming disturbed and worried who started phoning their relatives, friends, people in villages and those who matter in Uttarakhand’s politics and administration to find the real truth behind the message .

The message circulated in whatsapp initially also requested the receiver to further circulate it in wider public interest so that everyone is made aware of its implications. The message in Hindi said that the government of Uttarakhand has issued a written circular that the inhabitants of Uttarakhand who has landholdings in the hills and have not been cultivating the same for a decade or so would lose the rights of ownership as the landless people or farmers would be allotted the same.

The message became so badly viral that it especially disturbed people living in cities, towns and metropolises who are not cultivating agricultural land for decades. After all who would like to lose his or her right of ownership. When the government authorities were accquainted about this viral message and questioned the authenticity of the same, the Uttarakhand government was constrained to issue a written directive declaring the same as biased and false.

Though the matter has now come to an abrupt end after the government has issued the necessary clarifications but it will probably take some time before the worried outsiders are fully satisfied. Sources reveal that in view of lot of talks about the increasing exodus of hill people from villages to the plains some organisation or individuals must have played the mischief to enable reverse migration under the garb of losing their ancestral land holdings.
