Former UK CM Harish Rawat still an energetic septuagenerian with an indomitable spirit
The former chief minister of Uttarakhand and two time union state minister Harish Rawat is a politician of indomitable spirit possessing tremendous energy, zeal and enthusiasm even after having lost from both the legislative constitiencies he contested from, last time and having been dethroned from power in Uttarakhand.
A septuagenerian politician despite being allegedly sidelined in the state Congress politics by his juniors, the present UK Congress president Pritam Singh and others, Rawat has not accepted defeat and is all set to again make inroads in the state Congress politics by keeping himself duly available and being active in every political and social congregation, meetings, public contact programmes, seminars, social events, marriage functions and even at simple get togethers in every part of Uttarakhand , Delhi and NCR.
His active involvement in the national party affairs ranging from Congress convention to campaigning in Gujarat, Tripura, Karnataka and Uttarakhand elections has made him still significant and relevant in Congress politics at the national as well as state levels despite the fact that his detractors at the centre as well as in the state had tried their every possible best to sideline him and his cohorts by not only not including them in the Congress party organisation in Uttarakhand but also not inviting him in any of the state Congress programme, holding him responsible for the Congress party’s shameful debacle in Uttarakhand, whereas the fact remains that the present Congress chief Pritam Singh had been his long time protege and had also been the full fledged cabinet minister during his tenure as CM Uttarakhand.
Not a single day has passed during the last one year after badly losing at the hands of BJP in Uttarakhand that Harish Rawat has been immobile. He seems to be more active and socially participatory than before. He had been too active since day one of his losing at the hustings and had even thrown a lavish party of Uttarakhand’s traditional cuisines and delicacies to the Uttarakhandies and his followers living in Delhi n NCR across party lines a few months ago which was indeed a grand success.
Extremely diplomatic and affable in nature, Rawat is also active in the social networking sites like facebook and twitter on issues pertaining to Uttarakhand who loses no opportunity to castigate the present BJP CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, PM Narendra Modi and both the governments in criticizing them on various policy issues and lauding Rahul Gandhi on party and ideological lines.
After having badly lost at the hustings in the assembly elections of Uttarakhand it was usually felt and concieved by his bete noires that Harish Rawat will now finally retire from active politics and give way to the new youthful leaders to lead the Congress in the state but politically over ambitious Harish Rawat instead of relenting became more active politically and socially thus seeking publicity and media attention till date to the utter shock n dismay of his political rivals within the party.
Having earlier cut to sizes his significant heavy weight political rivals within the Congress party viz. Satpal Maharaj, former CM Vijay Bahuguna, fmr cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat n 7 Congress MLA’s, finally compelling them to join BJP to ensure his stangnancy as the CM UK in 2016, Rawat never allowed his ardent political rivals to remain in the party but manipulated their ouster. It hardly mattered to him even if it was at the cost of the party’s political existence and he finally faced the huge debacle.
Since his political ouster after reducing the Congress to an insignificant position in the state, Harish Rawat had been visiting all the historic shrines and temples of Uttarakhand regularly seeking blessings from Gods n Godesses and media publicity as well and holding press conferences on the way keeping his political image intact and under revision.
Just two days ago on 7th May, he visited Kedarnath Shrine and Kalimath and sought the blessings of the Lord Shiva compounded with inspecting the developmental works started during his tenure as CM in Kedarnath Dham.
He was stranded in the snow clad Kedarnath precints for a day or two alonwith the Rajya Sabha MP and his protege Pradeep Tamta which acknowledged tremendous media attention.
He today visited historic Kalimath temple and talked to media as well. Sounds interesting that a former chief minister having crossed 70 is still full of energy and enthusiasm thus giving an impression that its Harish Rawat who actually matters in Uttarakhand’s Congress’s politics and none other.
It looks as if he is all set to repeat next time in the Himalayan state as chief minister with the hope that Uttarakhand always opts for change alternatively in every five years.
It may be recalled that the electorates of Uttarakhand have always changed political parties’ governments in every election during the last 17 years and this obviously gives Rawat a boost to continue activity in this himalayan state as a moral booster to stage a come back next time as well. What an indomitable spirit indeed. Whats’ you take friends?
