There is a bad news for the State Bank of India (SBI) customers, who use internet banking services without linking their mobile number with the bank account. The bank will disable your internet banking if you do not link your mobile number before November 30.

India’s largest lender announced in October that customers who wish to use internet banking need to have their mobile number with their bank account, failing which the services will be blocked from December 1, 2018.

“Attention INB users, please register your mobile number with us immediately, if not already done, through Branch, failing which the Internet Banking facility may be blocked with effect from 01.12.2018,” SBI says on its official website.

The step has reportedly been taken to ensure further security. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had told all banks on July 6, 2017 that they must ask customers to register for SMS alerts for electronic banking transactions including internet banking and mobile banking.

While most of the account holders have linked their mobile number with the bank account, there are still some who have not done so.

If you are an SBI customer and want to check if you will be able to access internet banking from December 1, here is what you can do:

>> Open onlinesbi.com on your computer.

>> Enter internet banking login and password.

>> Click on ‘My Account and Profile’ tab.

>> Click on ‘Profile’ and go to Personal Details/Mobile.

>> Enter the profile password.

>> If the mobile number is linked, it will be displayed on the screen.

>> If the number is not registered, visit your nearest branch.

On a related note, the SBI has also informed its customers that they need to exchange older magstrip debit cards with the newer chip-based ones. They have to do it before December 31 at any SBI branch without any extra cost.

The bank is also shutting down its Buddy app on November 30.
