Alok Nath granted bail in rape case; court says ‘Vinta Nanda accused actor for her own benefit
The whole nation was shook when Bollywood’s most Sanskari babuji Alok Nath was dragged as one of the names accused under #MeToomovement. In her Facebook post, his old friend and producer Vinta Nanda accused the actor of raping her 19 years ago. The actor was booked under sections 376 (rape) and 377 (unnatural sex) of Indian Penal Code. On Wednesday, he receivedanticipatory bail
This happened after the hearing when the court observed that Vinta Nanda did not lodge the report immediately after the alleged incident for her own benefit and that the possibility of the applicant [Alok Nath] being falsely accused in the crime cannot be ruled out.
The victim Nanda, who claims that the crime took place 19 years ago, did not file a case against Nath then as she was told that no one would believe her story since Alok Nath is a big actor. Apart from this reason, the sessions court observed that there is “no record showing that Nath had given any threat or made any promise against lodging a report”.
According to media reports, the court further added that Alok Nath might be falsely accused of the crime since Nath’s lawyer argued that Nanda “remembers the entire incident but she did not remember the date and month of the incident”.
More so, since it has been 19 years to the incident and now both Nath and Nanda are married to their respective partners, Nath’s medical examination would be a mere ‘formality’.
Although Nath has been granted bail by the court on Saturday, he still could not visit Nanda’s house or threaten and/or bribe anyone associated with the case.
Once Nanda’s post went viral amidst the rage of #MeToo, Nath had filed a defamation suit against her, post which she filed an FIR alleging rape.
