Alstom To Provide Communications-Based Train Control Technology To Mumbai And Pune Metro

In a recent development, leading French multinational Rail transportation company, Alstom has bagged major contract to provide Communications-Based Train Control technology to the upcoming lines of Mumbai and Pune Metro. The Rs 700 crore contracts will help in arming the Mumbai metro line 2A, 2B and Line 7 as well as the first and second corridor of Pune Metro with CBTC technology.

According the release by the metro corporation, this contract will help in designing, manufacturing, and supply, installation, testing and commissioning of Urbalis 400 as well as providing a modern telecommunication system such as public address systems, passenger information display systems, fibre optic transmission systems, CCTV, and access control systems to the three elevated lines of Mumbai Metro. The contract was awarded by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

On the other hand, Alstom will provide the same communication system to the Pune metro so as to increase speed and frequency on the 32 km long stretch. Comprising of 31 stations on the two corridors, the contract for Pune Metro is awarded by Maha Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL).

Giving more information on the same, Alain Spohr, managing director for India and South Asia, Alstom said “We are excited to be part of these two prestigious projects. Our cutting-edge technologies will help enhance the quality of life of the citizens of both, Mumbai and Pune and will contribute to the infrastructural development of the cities.”

With a strong presence in India, Alstom is currently is handling major metro projects in key Indian cities including Chennai, Kochi, and Lucknow. The company works in line with the Indian Government ambitious initiative ‘Make in India’ campaign.
