Alternatives of Meditation for Anxiety

Meditation is an essential ingredient of a happy life. According to researches, it helps to eliminate anxiety, negative thoughts, worries and all those factors that prevent us from leading a happy and healthy life. Regular practice of meditation keeps the mind in control and mitigates stress and anxiety.

However, there are many people who struggle with meditation and I am one among those. For some people don’t like to just sit and doing nothing. And, the most important thing when you are doing nothing, you have to focus on nothing. Sometimes some people just want to do something that grounds them without sitting still.

So, here are some anxiety-calming things that can be practiced instead of meditation.

Breathing the stress out

Breathing techniques always work. All needed is take long and deep breaths through the nose and concentrate on the breath. That’s all! Focus on breathing all the way down into the lower belly. Make sure that shoulders shouldn’t rise, but the stomach will expand with air.

This stimulates the Parasympathetic Nervous System, which basically turns on the relaxation switch.

Music: The best stress buster

Music, for some people it is the best thing and they feel like the world would just crumble without music. Calming music helps release tension and stress, which can be considered as a break that a person really needs from a stressful day.

It is a proven stress-reliever, you can play around with your list of music that makes you say, “ahhhhhh.”

Walk to connect with yourself

Another best stress reliever is walking outside. While walking, you can plug in earbuds and jam out to some calming and soulful soundtrack.

A 10-20 minute stroll and connecting with your surroundings will make you relieved from all your stress. Just be with the surroundings while walking, and watch your thoughts flow in and out like waves.

Express through writing

It is believed that the best stress reliever is expressing all your heart out. However, this method sometimes doesn’t work if the other persons are not on your side. So the best way is to write out what’s stressing you out. It has been proven that expressing your stress though the writing is one of the productive ways to tackle the causes of your anxiety. When you feel anxious and not sure why try free-flow writing. This will help you to hash out everything that’s on your mind or what’s affecting you, and you will surely be able to find the source of your stress.

Try this and write at least for ten minutes without and do not bother about spelling and grammatical errors. Just go on writing and let it all out.  This is a safe way to go deep and get some perspective.

One important thing to note, if you’re going through a LOT of stress, then better to have some close friend or else, visit a therapist in case you start feeling lonely or not feeling to mingle with anyone.

Practice Yoga

Practicing yoga is really an active way to get the anxiety out. If you are a beginner join good yoga classes nearby your house. It keeps the mind focused on keeping up and doing the poses correctly. This will help you to be more mindful and present than sitting still and mind wandering. The yoga techniques are also called Progressive Muscle Relaxation for anxiety release.

If you don’t want to go to a classroom session then try out the video sessions on the internet. Yoga works better if you practice it in the open air in the morning time.
