NEW DELHI / March 5, 2021: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s School of Engineering is launching a unique, one-of-its-kind competitive programming contest for girls called AlgoQueen.

The aim is to promote a culture of competitive programming among girl students in the country. Under the AlgoQueenprogram, Amrita School of Engineering will host a series of contests till July 2021.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham students and alumni will deliver training sessions for those interested in participating in the contest to instil confidence among them about coding.

Said Maheshwara Chaitanya, Dy. Controller of Exams & Associate Director, ICPC Amritapuri Asia Site, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham: “Competitive programming is trending in the technology sector and enabling industries to identify and recruit students with appreciable coding skills. By organizing the AlgoQueencontest for girls, we want to help reduce the gender gap in the domain. Competitive programming builds a strong foundation to develop problem-solving techniques and critical thinking. It also enhances basic mathematical and algorithmic skills and one’s knowledge about data structures. This, in turn, helps students build logical and analytical skills.”

The contest comprises four online rounds of questions based on C, C++, Java and Python that will be followed by an onsite round (if pandemic conditions permit). It is open to all girl students from schools across India in teams of two or three. The questionnaires will be prepared entirely by students of Amrita School of Engineering.

To guide participants and boost their confidence, online training sessions will be held prior to the contest that will be hosted on an external platform known as Competitive Drills Contests.
