A 51-year-old Turkmenistan national woman died while three others were injured including two more Turkmenistan nationals after an auto rickshaw in which they were travelling turned turtle after being hit by an allegedly speeding Bentley car in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri on Monday afternoon. Police have arrested the accused and medical reports have confirmed the driver was not drunk at the time of the incident.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Gulshat Alijanova (51) while her friends were identified as Alma Gul Atayeba (33) and Gulia Yyam (55) who were travelling in an auto driven by Raghubir Singh, a resident of Sangam Vihar in south Delhi.

“The accident took place at Vinay Marg near Nehru Park around 1.30 pm. A call was received at 1.45 pm reporting that a car has rammed a three-wheeler and then hit a pole on the footpath at Vinay Marg. The Bentley car was being driven by Asees Singh Chadha, 19-year-old nephew of the dead liquor baron Gurdeep Singh Chadha, better known as Ponty Chadha,” Deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma.

Police said Asees’s car was being escorted by a Punjab Police vehicle in which Punjab police personnel, deployed in his security, were travelling.

“Asees was caught and thrashed by some locals and passersby before he was rescued by his security personnel and policemen from the Chanakyapuri police station. Eyewitnesses told us that the Bentley car was being driven at a high speed when it rammed the auto,” said Verma.

Police said that the impact of the hit was such that the auto turned turtle and the occupants were thrown out on the road, causing them multiple injuries. The front portion of the car was badly damaged because of the crash.

According to the police, Asees was driving towards his home in Chhatarpur when the mishap took place.
