BJP wouldn’t have sought votes in the name of Army had they worked for the welfare of people – JP
Veteran Congress leader and candidate from Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat Jai Prakash Agrawal inaugurated the party’s chief electoral office at Model Town on Tuesday (April 30). During his public outreach campaign for the Lok Sabha polls he reiterated that not just Delhi, the entire country is fed up with the rhetorics of the Modi Government.
Former minister of Delhi Haroon Yusuf, Mangat Ram Singhal, former MLA Kunwar Karan Singh, Anil Bharadwaj, Hari Shakar Gupta, Ashok Jain, Veer Singh Dhigan, Shoaib Iqwal, Prahlad Singh Sahni, Chaudhari Shadi Ram, District Congress President Hari Kishan Jindal, Mohammad Usman, Ashok Baisoya, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, and Sevdal chairperson along with hundreds of Congress workers were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri JP Agrawal said, “The real identity of the Congress is its workers. All of your hard work, sacrifices and efforts are the reason for my success. I sincerely respect all the good work you are doing for the party and I am always there for you.”
Former minister and senior Congress leader, Mr Haroon Yusuf said, “I would urge you all to come out and vote in big numbers on May 12 and help Shri J.P. Agarwal, your favourite candidate from Chandni Chowk seat, win by record votes.”
Attacking the ruling BJP, Mr Agarwal said, “BJP leaders had promised ‘Achhe Din’ five years ago, but the people of Delhi are still waiting for the fulfilment of those promises. All those talks and assurances from BJP president Amit Shah about ‘Achhe Din’ during 2014 election meetings were nothing but rhetoric. What are they seeking votes this time for? First, they should fulfil the promises made in 2014, then make new promises for the next five years.”
“The future of our next generation hangs in limbo under this government. There is no room for exhibitionist nationalism and fake patriotism in this country. The BJP leaders are seeking votes in the name of Army to return to power. In the last 70 years, the Army achieved several feats under the Congress rule but we never politicised them. Several surgical strikes were conducted under Congress regime but the party never took the credit for the exemplary work of our soldiers and sought votes. Had they done something for the poor and the common people, they wouldn’t be seeking votes in the name of Army,” said Mr Agrawal.
Speaking in his own style, JP Agrawal did not spare the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi too. He said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should tell what steps he has taken to solve the problems of the people.
The four-time Congress MP added further, “When the shops were being forcibly sealed in Delhi, why did not Kejriwal come forward to help the businessmen? The sealing in the tenure of the BJP government has made it difficult for traders to run their homes. Even in 2006, a similar situation of sealing was troubling the shopkeepers and traders. But Congress government brought them relief in just 15 days. Therefore, before casting your precious vote, do keep your heart and mind open. If any mistake happens, the people of Delhi will have to suffer again for the next 5 years. The government, which for five years, caused so much trouble to businessmen, common people and the poor should be taught a lesson. The people of Delhi will no longer vote for them.”
Mr Agarwal said, “The outgoing MP from Chandni Chowk seat kept his mouth shut on the problems of the common people during the cabinet meeting and never questioned the bad moves of the BJP leaders.”
