Breakfast Dishes: For an energized start to the day
It is said that breakfast is the most important part of the day.
It fuels your body to tackle the oncoming day. In these busy times, we often tend to overlook breakfast. It isn’t just about stuffing our face with whatever you can put your hands in first. It is about mindfully choosing what the best meal would be for your body.
A few years ago, we would either stuff our face with a slice of bread and load up on coffee to start the day. But as of recently, people have been migrating towards more healthy options and less fast and furious chomping. When it comes to nutritive options, we don’t need to turn towards the west for options. We can look inward towards our own country for nutritional breakfast options.
so, let us begin!
Methi Thepla: A Gujarati special, thepla is a soft flatbread that can be eaten as both breakfast and lunch. Make it as a breakfast dish and pair it with a fresh bowl of dahi and enjoy it with your garam cup of chai!
Sali par Edu: let us take the Parsi way and make an amazing breakfast with eggs and potatoes. Relish it with toasted bread and you’re good to go.
Namkeen seviyan: this is my personal favorite and so easy to whip up! This desi flavor seviyaan is sure to make your mornings energized.
Aloo paratha: A northern favorite, aloo paratha is the ultimate breakfast dish. Serve the parathas with a topping of butter or ghee along with curd/pickles and you have yourself a winner!
Dhokla: Another one of my personal favorites, dhokla is another delicious dish you can try for breakfast. It is fairly easy to make. All you need is besan and you’re done. Don’t forget the delectable tadka. That is where the magic is.
Puri and aloo: Puri and aloo is a match made in heaven. You have these fluffy puris and then you dip it into a delectable aloo curry. That is pure happiness. You can also make the curry with white matar and it will taste equally amazing. Thank me later.
Uttapam: This dish is a powerhouse. It is made with rice, urad daal and lots of spices. Add in chopped onions, tomatoes and curry leaves and you will never want to skip breakfast again.
Upma: All of us have a memory of eating upma for breakfast. Some of us like it, some hate it, but that doesn’t make it any less delicious! It is made of Sooji and lots of vegetables. The tadka with mustard seeds, chili and curry leaves makes all the difference.
Misal Pav: this a traditional Maharashtrian dish. Think of it as something along the lines of pav bhaji. If you’re someone who likes a heavy filling breakfast, try this dish complete with vegetables and buttery pav!
Idli: I saved the most popular for the last. Every corner of India is aware of this ever satisfying dish. And it is very versatile. You can make the idlis with traditional sooji or modern oats. It goes well with chutney, sambar or matar curry (I love to eat idlis with aloo matar curry, yum!)
Now that you have so many options for breakfast, I hope you never think of skipping it again!
