The process of the non BJP opposition unity got a huge jolt today when the political heavy weight amongst the opposition leaders and the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Bahan Mayawati accused the senior Congress leader and former MP CM Digvijay Singh as the BJP agent creating bottlenecks in the way of the seat sharing arrangement between the BSP and the Congress party in Madhya Pradesh.

Badly furious and annoyed the prominent leader of the SC, ST community in the country Mayawati held a special press conference to announced the severing of the political ties with Congress in Madhya Pradesh as well as in Chattisgarh and Rajasthan where it will contest on all the seats on its own.

However in MP and Chattisgarh it will contest with the regional party of Ajit Jogi. The statement of Mayawati accusing the senior Congress leader of creating bottlenecks in the way of Congress BSP alliance terming him as an agent of BJP and formally declaring to contest elections on its own n in league with a regional party thus severing ties with Congress,  will have a far reaching effect in the ongoing unity process of the entire non Congress opposition in the country.

Mayawati has in her hard hitting note in the press conference said that Digvijay Singh who is a vested interest oriented leader with a squeezed thinking also hob nobbed with the BJP earlier and out of the fear of the CBI n ED enquiry against him had deliberately not taken any pain and interest to form the Congress govt in Goa despite the party being in a comfortable majority.

She also blamed the Congress party of seeking the votes of SC,ST n backwards of the country and enjoying power but in practicality did nothing for these lowest ebb people in terms of their socio economic development and as a result the BSP was formed toeing the ideology and ethics of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. She openly blamed the Congress party for conspiring to finish the BSP.

The talks between the Congress and BSP were going on a smooth level for the state elections in MP, Chattisgarh but the BSP was asking for good number of seats despite the fact that the Congress party is the largest stake holder in the state being the major opposition party having secured a good percentage of votes with the BSP having merely 5 to 6 % of votes with negligible number of MLAs.

The Congress amd Rahul Gandhi was personally interested for a healthy patch up with the BSP but the adamant attitude of the former CM Digvijay Singh and his certain charges on Mayawati have annoyed her immensely which finally resulted in severing of the pre poll ties with Mayawati calling him the BJP agent and Digvijay Singh allegedly branding her a leader helping BJP for the fear of the institution of the CBI n ED enquiry in the disproportionate assest and Taj Corridor cases already registered against her. BSP leader Mayawati charged the Congress partyof conspiring to finish the Bahujan Samaj Party.

It may be recalled that the Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav, Sharad Pawar, Mamta Bannerjee and the left parties have been trying to give shape to the national coalition anti BJP tie ups at states’ and national levels.

According to this arrangements while in UP the strongest parties like BSP, SP n Lok Dal are trying for patch, in Bengal Mamta Bannerjee would have her say and accordingly in Maharashtra n other Congress dominated states the NCP n the Congress parties would be given priority in seat adjustments.

The Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has even gone to extent of agreeing for that party to choose the next prime minister which will gain maximum number ofseats in the 2019 general elections despite the hard fact that the Trinamool Congress chief Mamta Bannerjee as well as Mayawati is also nursing the ambition to be the prime minister of the country.

The crux of the entire exercise is that the votes of the non BJP opposition parties whether they are the regional parties in Andhra Pradesh,Telangana, Karnataka or Communists in Kerala or national parties,  should not be divided failing which the BJP is bound to take the political advantage and re establish its hegemony at the centre in 2019. But it seems that what has happened in Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh n Rajasthan has indeed given a huge rebuff to the opposition unity efforts against the BJP led NDA.

The recent victories of Kairana, Phulpur and Sitapur in UP including in 2 parliamentary seats of Rajasthan had boasted the morale of the entire non BJP opposition but the war of words between the Congress leader Digvijay Singh and Mayawati finally leading to severing of pre poll ties in three states likely to go to polls shortly have infact applied a reverse gear making the BJP happy and a huge jolt to the ongoing opposition unity efforts.
