It’s Lohri time! : Celebrate Lohri with the authentic taste of Punjab

Winters call for festivals in different states like Uttarayan in Gujarat/Rajasthan, Pongal in the South, Makar Sankranti in Maharashtra, and Lohri in Punjab. And festivals always calls for some specials of sweets food and a lot more celebration.

Lohri brings many traditional and exciting activities like lighting the bonfire, singing popular folklore, enjoying the tunes of drums, flying kites, dancing to the beats of dhol, and especially enjoying a scrumptious meal.

With Lohri 2021 is almost here, the delicious food items made on this day invite us to gobble them without any hustle. The traditional Lohri food from Punjab talks of savories like Sarson ka saag, makai ki roti, gobi pakora, paneer butter masala, ganne ki kheer, bajra khichdi, atta laddoo, til ke laddo, dry fruit chikki, the list is endless.

Makke Di Roti-Saarson Da Saag – A typical Lohri dinner is never complete without Saarson ka saag and makes ki roti, which is nothing but a mixed saag with makke ki roti. And in case you want a typical Punjabi flavor for this don’t forget to accompany this with a dollop of butter in both. It’s a simple one but the most traditional and most celebrated Punjabi delicacies.

Pinni- Lohri signifies the last of the coldest days of winter. Punjabis are very particular about Lohri recipes and Pinni falls one of the tops of their favorite food.

Pinni is also known as atta ladoos, is a rich dessert made with wheat flour, milk, dry fruits, nuts, sugar syrup, and desi ghee.

Chikki- Chikki is one of the staple food for Lohri-special treats, it is prepared with peanuts and jaggery. Other than the peanut chikki, there are varieties of chikkis which also enjoyed by the people during Lohri like murmure ki chikki, dry fruits chikki, til (sesame seeds) ki chikki, dry fruits chikki, and kaju ki chikki. This delicacy is specially made to celebrate many Indian festivals, including Makar Sakranti and Holi.

Pindi Chana – Pindi chana made in authentic Indian masalas is so tasty. On the eve of Lohri, this chole when cooked to perfection turn out to be a perfect Indian delicacy for the festival. This turns out to be a quick and easy treat for one and all.

Corn Palak Cutlet – The name itself brings water to your mouths. Corn and spinach combined together with a good blend of masalas to make these tikkis amazing. enjoy a healthy and tasty snack on this festive day.
