Civil right activist Irom Sharmilee gives birth to twin daughters at a Bengaluru hospital

Popularly known as the Iron lady of Manipur, North East, Irom Chanu Sharmila who underwent 16 protracted years of protest hunger strike from 2000 till 2016 and thereafter force fed the liquid diet, demanding withdrawal of draconion Armed Forces Special Powers Act that allegedly killed several innocents in Manipur and the North East, yesterday gave birth to two baby twins in a Bengaluru Hospital, named as Irom.Sakhi and Autimn Tara, named after the female incarnation of Lord Budha.

Her husband Desmond Coutinho was present in the hospital at the time of delivery of his twin daughters. A human right activist and a fighter since begining Irom Sharmila raised voice against the imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act enforced in the North East in view of the increasing insurgency. She termed it as draconion as according to her under the guise of this act the para military allegedly killed several innocents.

She gave up her fast in the year 2016/ 17 and thereafter married a friend who took care of her during her addmission in hospital undergoing hunger strike. The private hospital where she gave birth to the twin babies is known as Cloud Nine. Both the daughters are hale and hearty.

The couple had posted the picture of the new born girl childs in their twitter handle. Good number of tweets by her fans and followers appearing with heartiest congratulations and good wishes. Born on 14th March 1972, 47 year old Iron Lady Irom Sharmilee has also formed Peoples’ Resurgence and Justice Alliance after she gave up her protracted hunger strike and contested the assembly elections from Manipur against the then CM Ibobi Singh to lose badly as she had no tesources to contest elections nor did she accepted any inside or outside donation in the state.

Apart from being a civil right activist she is also a writer and a poet. In one of the tweets one Priyanka Sarkar wrote while congratulating her: Congratulations Irom Sharmila. Hope you will raise your children to be fighters. To be as strong as you. To be inspiration for all who want to achieve their dreams. It was just a co incidence that when the entire world was celebrating the International Mothers Day, civil right activist Irom Chanu Sharmilee gave birth to twin girl child. WOW.
