As the date ( 23rdMay) of declaration of results is nearing, the political parties in the election fray whether BJP or Congress or rest of the anti BJP alliance called Mahagathbandhan, are calculating their chances to come to power at the centre.

While the BJP led NDA under the charismatic leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi is quite confident of forming its majority government this time as well, the 130 year old Congress party under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi too seems to be over confident of crossing the three digit mark quite ahead of the current lowest 44 number figure that it has in Lok Sabha, not even able to secure the status of the main opposition leader.

This has perhaps not happened earlier in the context of Congress party under the leadership of Nahru, Indira, Rajiv, Narsimha Rao, Sonia Gandhi or Manmohan Singh.
But of course during Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.

Highly optimistic of forming the government several senior Congress leaders though internally not sure of that, say that, had Priyanka Gandhi brought into active politics a year or more before, things would have been quite different and favourable for the Congress party.

Their logic is quite healthy n constructive as they say : the way Priyanka Gandhi’s charisma and her miracle has revitalised n revived a defunct Congress organisation n its complacent workers n leaders in entire Uttar Pradesh after her late entry and compelled the media to take positive notice of the Congress party , had she joined a year or a half ago, the chances of the party would have gone much much higher, not only in Uttar Pradesh but also in the entire country.

However, they are still hopeful of their party doing extremely well n optimistic of crossing the three digit figure.

In 2014 when the Modi wave was on its peak n the people of the country got badly disenchanted with the Congress rule of ten years inflicted with scams n corruption, the party lost in most of the states of the country viz Uttarakhand, Delhi, won only two seats in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh n Orissa etc.

It altogether lost in about thirteen states of the country. Not only this but after losing badly in 2014 parliamentary elections, the Congress also lost in several states thus giving BJP n its allies governments in over 20 states.

But despite all this, the Congress chief Rahul did not lose heart and continued to target the BJP led NDA n its prime minister on issues like Rafale, agrarian crisis, unemployment, failure to bring black money stashed in foreign banks, demonetisation, farmers suicides and GST.

Congress regained power in three hindi heartland states viz Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, the traditional strongholds of saffron party.

Though sidelined in the major state of the country, UP by the SP, BSP, RLD trio, where the BJP is bound to lose atleast 40 Lok Sabha seats at the hands of this alliance, Congress leaders are still jubilant and confident of crossing the three digit mark come what may ?

According to the party insiders the Congress party is bringing good number of seats in the states it was zero in 2014 and the states are Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh ( at leat 5 to 7 seats) Jharkhand, Tamilnadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Punjab, Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Assam etc.

The BJP’s loss in Uttar Pradesh and other states will add to the political glory of the Congress.

Though the party is confident of not exhibiting a good show in the states like Andhra, Telengana, HP, Uttarakhand and Northeast it is least worried as HP n Uttarakhand has merely 9 Lok Sabha seats and the win of Jagan Mohan Reddy Congress in Andhra Pradesh will ultimately go in favour of Mahagathbandhan post general election results and so will other anti BJP parties like SP, BSP, TMC, TDP, NCP, NC, CPM, CPI and other regional parties.

The Congress leaders who are immensely hopeful of the party crossing the three digit mark say that the way the senior BJP leaders have come down to using the valour of the Armed forces and abusive languages against the Congress party leaders unambiguously speak of the fact that they have come to the conclusion that they are losing in majority of the states of the country.

The way Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi’s public, corner meetings and road shows are gaining momentum through endless crowds it unambiguously speaks of the fact that the Congress party would cross the three digit mark in this general election at the pan India level.

However, if we go by the BJP’s assesment and confidence they claim that they are forming the government for sure this time as well.

The factors that go in their favour are propagation of ultra nationalism, army valour exploitation, post Pulwama factor n of course prime minister Modi’s individual leadership charisma. What is your take friends?
