The Congress members of parliament under the leadership of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and United Progressive Alliance’s chairperson Sonia Gandhi today staged a tumultuous protest outside parliament house but within its vicinity demanding stoppage to alleged threatening of lawmakers in Karnataka and Goa and subversion of democracy in the country, accusing the ruling BJP of destabilising the democratically elected opposition governments in both the states.

The protesting Congress MPs were carrying placards in their hands and raising slogans like Loktantra ki Hatya  bandh karo, daraana dhamkana band karo.
Prominent amongst those present in the protest demonstration apart from other Congress MPs were Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi,  interim Congress president Moti Lal Vohra, former union defence minister A. K. Antony, Anand Sharma, and others.
The protesting members of parliament were also carrying placards in their hands mentioning Save Democracy and Loktantra Bachao in Hindi and English.
In addition to this protest march and demonstration the former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in the presence of prime minister Narendra Modi and his entire cabinet including a fully packed house spoke on the problems of the farmers of the country accusing the BJP led NDA government for literally doing nothing for ameliorating the grievances of the farmers committing suicides in the country while demitting  loans of several lakh crores of rupees of the rich capitalists.
Raising the issue of the farmers distress in the Lok Sabha during the Zero hour, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi acquainted the government and the house about the unfortunate suicide of a poor farmer in Wayanad, Kerala the constituency represented by him and said that about 8000 farmers of Wayanad had been sent notices and their properties confiscated by the government leaving them in acute financial jeopardy.
He accused the BJP led NDA government of demitting the loans of 5.5 lakh crores of the rich businessmen of the country during the last five years but has done nothing to ameliorate the grievances of the farmers of the country.
Amidst immense shouting by the opposition benches union defence minister Rajnath Singh blamed the previous Congres governments for the mess in the agricultural sector and said that the distressing condition of the peasants of the country had happened during the last 7 decades of Congress rule instead of the 5-year rule of the BJP.
He disclosed that the maximum number of the farmers had committed suicides during the last 7 decades during the Congress rule whereas the BJP led NDA government has increased the maximum support prices of the farmers during the last five years as promised earlier.
