Constipation: A curable condition!

Many people suffer from constipation; however, some do not want to take any medication for it. For them, here are some of the home remedies, which will not only help to treat it but also regularise your motion.

Triphala churna

An ayurvedic combination of three fruits, namely, amla or Indian gooseberry, haritaki or Chebulic Myrobalan and vibhitaki or Bellirica Myrobalan. It is a helpful laxative to regulate digestion and bowel movements.

Usage:

One teaspoon of Triphala churna can be taken with warm water or it can be mixed with honey. It should be consumed either before going to bed or in the early morning on an empty stomach.

Raisins

Raisins are loaded with fibre and act as great natural laxatives. This remedy best works for pregnant women, without the side-effects of medication.

Usage:

Soak a handful of raisins in water overnight. Consume them in the morning on an empty stomach.

Guavas

Guavas contain soluble fibre in its pulp and insoluble fibre content in its seeds. It also helps in mucus production that helps in peristalsis movement of the intestine.

Lemon saltwater

Lemon juice acts as a cleansing agent for the intestines and the salt helps in the easy and quick passage of stool. This combination is a great detox drink for the body.

Usage:

Add and mix one teaspoon of lemon juice in a glass of warm water.

Then add a pinch of salt to the lemon water solution.

Drink this solution on an empty stomach to relieve constipation.

Figs

Either ripe or dried, figs are a great source of fibre and act as an excellent natural laxative.

Usage:

Boil a few figs along with a glass of milk, drink this fig and milk mixture at night before bed.

Ensure the mixture is warm when you consume it.

Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds are another great source of fibre content and help you to a great extent when it comes to constipation related problems

Usage:

Mix flaxseeds in your cereal every morning. Or you can have a handful with warm water early in the morning.

Castor oil

It has been used for centuries as an excellent remedy for constipation as it has properties that can kill intestinal worms.

Usage:

If you can’t drink a spoon of castor oil alone then, you can add a tablespoon of it in a warm glass of milk. Drink this mixture at night before bed to relieve constipation. It also makes your skin texture castor smooth and flawless.

Spinach

Spinach has properties that cleanse, repair and renew the intestinal tract. This remedy is the most effective way to cure even the most chronic cases of constipation.

Usage:

You can consume 100 ml of spinach juice mixed with an equal amount of water twice daily.

Oranges

Oranges are a rich source of vitamin C. It is also loaded with a large amount of fibre.

Usage:

Eating two oranges every day, once in the morning and another in the evening can provide great relief from constipation. It is advised to consume them without peeling off the white threads for additional effect.

Seed mixtures

A handful of mixed seeds is a great source of fibre and helps to overcome constipation. The mixture of various seeds not only offers the necessary fibre content to relieve constipation but also helps in rejuvenating the intestinal walls.

Usage:

2-3 sunflower seeds, a few flaxseeds, til or sesame seeds and almonds ground together to a fine powder. Have one tablespoon of this mixture every day. You can add it to your cereal or salad in the morning.

Diet tips to avoid constipation:

  1. Avoid foods containing white flour-like maida, white sugar and other processed foods.
  2. Eat light meals regularly and make sure you eat at least 3-4 hours before going to bed.
  3. Include more vegetables and fruits into your daily diet.
  4. Adding condiments like haldi, jeera and ajwain in your food while cooking it is a great way to help digestion system.
  5. Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water every day. Do not forget to have a glass of warm water every morning and before going to bed.

Constipation is a curable and a manageable condition, all you need to do is bring a little change to your lifestyle. These home remedies and minor restrictions will keep you well and bring a happy morning to you.
