Earthquake with 7.0 Magnitude hits Turkey and Greece
More than 22 people have been killed in Greece and Turkey on Friday as an earthquake with a 7.0 magnitude hit the Aegean Sea between the Turkish coast and Greece’s Samos peninsula. After the earthquake, Greek Prime Minister Kyarikos Mitsothanakis spoke by phone to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and offered his condolences and support.
In Turkey, 20 people have been killed and more than 800 injured in the earthquake, while in Greece, 2 died and dozens were injured. The earthquake was felt for nearly 10 minutes.
Izmir Governor Yawooz Saleem Kosgar said many buildings collapsed as a result of the earthquake. More than 100 people were evacuated from the debris. Four buildings have been demolished and several buildings have been damaged. The management department said that relief operations are on. A rescue operation is being carried out for people trapped under the debris. The department said the quake was 16.5 kilometers below the Aegean Sea. Greek media said that during the earthquake, residents of Samos and other peninsulas fled their homes. In addition, there are reports of the landslide as well.
