Fax machine of governor’s office stangulates democracy in J and K say Omar
The senior leader of Congress party and the former chief minister of J&K Ghulam Nabi Azad while speaking to reporters and ANI said that he was surprised to see that the J&K assembly was dessolved in desperation despite the hard fact that neither the Congress nor the National Conference had taken any formidable or informal decision on the formation of the government in Jammu and Kashmir.
The idea was still in the initial state as a mere proposal and the Congress party including the National Conference had not even called its legislative meetings to finalise things about the formation of the government with PDP.
It was just a proposal nothing on an advanced stage but the assembly was dissolved. Now elections should take place in three four months time added Azad.
He said even the leader of the National Conference Omar Abdullah had not convened the meeting to discuss the proposal for government formation but the assembly was dissolved in a hurry at the alleged instrction from the centre.
It may be recalled that the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and leader of Peoples’ Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti who ruled the state earlier with the inside support of BJP had in writing communicated to the governor of J& K Satya Pal Malik that the PDP had the support of 56 law makers in total, including 12 from the Congress Party and 15 from the National Conference.
This means had she been given the opportunity after proper verification of her point of view , the allaince proposed by her could have been in quite a comfortable position to form the stable government in the state as the minimum limit to form the government was 44 lawmakers.
However the other group of the Peoples’ Conference had also claimed to form the government with the 25 lawmakers of BJP and 18 of PC.
But the dissolution of the house, earlier in suspended animation for the last several months after the destabilisation of the PDP BJP alliance government in J&K has now opened the doors for elections within the next six months, putting PDP, Congress and the NC in tizzy.
Soon after the dissolution of the house in J&K comprising of 84 lawmakers the visibly disturbed former CM and PDP chief has tweeted: In my twenty six year old career as a politician, I thought I had seen it all ! But like they say, never say, never ! Nevertheless, I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to @ Omar Abdullah and Ambika Soni4ji for helping us achieve the seemingly impossible.
This tweet sounds more a friendly gesture which though could’nt fructify in the government formation this time but may perhaps prove fruitful in forging the pre election or post election alliance in the near future. But will it really happen, depends on the fact, whether the elections in Jammu n Kashmir are held within the stipulated legal frame work or postponed indefinitely for now.
However, addressing a press conference after the dissolution of the house in Jammu & Kashmir on 21st November the National Conference chief had said the the fax machine of the J& K’s governor’s office has strangled the democracy to the core in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the governor office says that it has’nt acknowleged the letter of PDP for govt formation with the outside support of Congress and NC.
He asked what type of fax machine is this that it gets faulty n working according to the governor office’s directions and conveniences. What type of fax machine is this that it does’nt deliver the letter of claim for the formation of the government in the state but sents the letter for the dissolution of the assembly ?
Omar said when the letter of the decision of National Conference to extend outside support to PDP was extended and the latter for government formation was sent to the governor’s office it is not acknowleged there on the pretext that the fax machine was out of order.
And thereafter the house gets dissolved and governor’s rule imposed in the state. Sounds shocking.
Meanwhile the governor of J&K Satya Pal Mulik has cleared his stand on the dissolution of the assembly by saying that he had informations that there was horse trading taking place, money allegedly changing hands for the formation of the new government and threatenting n intimidating tactics being used to influence the law makers to change sides.
0He therefore had no option but to dissolve the house as he always favoured a duly democratically elected government. However the NC chief Omar Abdullah n Congress leader have refuted these charges saying that there is no question of these illegal means taking place as all the three parties, the TDP, NC and the Congress party had already sent the letter to the governor claiming forming of the government in the state.
