Five chief ministers meet to jointly fight increasing drug menace

The drug menace has once again assumed multi-pronged proportions at the pan India level with the border states of Punjab and Haryana including Uttar Pradesh and several other states of the country becoming its victim as the younger generation, in particular, is constrained to ruin its future by falling into the trap of increasing drug menace.
What is a most worrisome aspect of this menace is, it’s accompanying huge illegal profits which are used by the terrorists and drug smugglers aided and abetted by ISI from across the border through porous Rajasthan and Punjab borders via Pakistan and Gorakhpur and Bihar etc via Nepal.
Not only this but these days the coasts of Srilanka, Maldives, and India are also being misused by the dreaded international smugglers to smuggle massive contrabands of the heroine in India which costs one crore for a kilogram in the international market and therefore fetches huge profits.
The Indian authorities, the BSF and the Narcotics Control Bureau, etc have caught more than five hundred kilograms or even more Heroine ( drugs) during the past years being smuggled in Punjab from Pakistan and Indo Pak Punjab border. This is indeed a very disturbing trend.
This heroine from here is sent through clandestine couriers to various metropolises and states of the country which is sold in grams at million and million of outlets like colleges, schools, hotels, discos and even in JJ clusters and unauthorized colonies. Once the addiction of the rich and affluents this menace has now percolated down to the boys of the lowest ebb of the society creating havoc with their lives.
Even states like Uttarakhand once considered to be the abode of Gods are today not free from this menace where the young generation have fallen prey to this dreaded addiction not only spoiling and ruining their health but also careers and families.
In order to establish strong coordinated efforts to stringently and decisively counter this increasing menace and bring the culprits ( drug mafia) to justice with a heavy hand the chief ministers of five states sat together in a conclave at Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana to arrive at unanimity to devise a foolproof and credible solution to this dreadful menace.
This was the 2nd regional conference attended by CM of five states to counter the increasing challenge of drug menace and devise strategies to counter them credibly at the regional as well as at national level.
The conclave titled ” Conference on Drug menace, Challenges and Strategies” was attended by Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khatter, Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, Punjab CM Capt Amrinder Singh, Himachal CM Jai Ram Thakur, and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, etc.
Apart from the chief ministers of five Congress and BJP ruled states heads of the police departments and Narcotics Control Bureau and other law enforcing agencies including officers from the North East and J & K were also present on this occasion.
The chief ministers expressed serious concern over the increasing drug smuggling from countries like Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other nations of the globe and resolved to set up a credible joint working group of seven Northern states and union territories which will mutually share information and experience involving officials of the Health and social welfare departments to put the drug menace to end.
A nationwide campaign will also be launched to create awareness as well as bringing the culprits to justice through a widespread national campaign.
The chief ministers of Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan including top officials of Jammu and Kashmir pledged to end the scourge of drugs by all means in order to protect the health and future of the young generation falling into the trap of this dreaded menace.
The conference also appealed to the center to bring out a credible drug policy to effectively and stringently deal with the drug scourge and menace by introducing effective laws.
THE states of HARYANA and Himachal Pradesh said they will introduce legislation on the lines of MCOCA ( Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act ) to get rid of increasing drug menace.
