Flyover On Chennai’s GST Road To Start Operations By December
In a latest development, the state government has made an announcement that the flyover on Chennai’s GST Road will start its functioning by December 2019. This will be unidirectional flyover that will cover an area of around 1.53 km, so that stopping traffic troubles of daily commuters. Starting from Tambaram, the flyover will be constructed on Grand Southern Trunk (GST) road near Pallavaram.
The uni-directional flyover will have three lanes and the estimated cost of the project is Rs 82.66 crores.
Giving more information on the above, a senior official from the Highway Department said, “After several hurdles, the construction work has once again started on the stuck flyover. 47 deck slabs need to be fitted, of which 37 has already been constructed while work on rest is still underway,”
He further added that the work on two junctions near English Electricals and Old Sandhai Road has been finished, while at Pammal Junction it is under development.
“At the same time, the work on ramping of a flyover on the Chennai’s side has already started and will take around 4 months to be complete. On the other hand, work on the other side will start next week.” Official said.
Currently, the authority is working hard to complete the flyover by the end of this year so that the issue of traffic jam between Tambaram and airport end soon.
The drive to end the work promptly is welcomed by daily commuters. According to them, although the department has made diversions and provisions to handle traffic, but still there is a heavy jam during peak timings. As soon as the flyover will start functioning, the problem of commuters will come to an end.
