Ahead of BS6 getting implemented in India, Maruti Suzuki will discontinue all their diesel engine powered cars. From 1st April 2020, not a single Maruti Suzuki car will be sold with a diesel engine. With BS4 diesel 1.3-liter engine soon going to be discontinued, the company aims to boost sales by this new free warranty offer.

As per this, all Maruti Suzuki cars, which are still powered by the 1.3 liter BS4 diesel engine, will get free 5 years/ 1 lakh km warranty. This offer is applicable across India, at all Maruti Suzuki and Nexa dealerships. It comes at no extra cost.

The cars which are powered by this Fiat-sourced 1.3-liter engine are Swift, Dzire, S Cross and Vitara Brezza. Ertiga and Ciaz too were offered with this engine until the start of this month. But the same has now been discontinued. Ertiga and Ciaz are now exclusively offered with 1.5 liter BS4 diesel engine and a 1.5-liter petrol engine.

Maruti Suzuki has its own 1.5-liter diesel engine. It is currently a BS4 compliant unit. This engine will be updated to BS6, but not by 1st April 2020. Maruti Suzuki will wait 1 year and see how the BS6 fuel situation is in the country before launching a BS6 diesel engine.

The reason being, a BS6 diesel engine car cannot run on BS4 diesel fuel. On the other hand, a BS6 petrol engine can run on BS4 petrol fuel. This is the reason Maruti is only focusing on updating their petrol engines to BS6 and not their diesel cars. They want to see if the fuel companies manage to update to BS6 petrol and BS6 diesel fuel norms by April 2020.

Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Dzire, S-Cross, Swift and Vitara Brezza are our flagship products, which played a pivotal role in transforming not just Maruti Suzuki but the Indian automotive industry itself. These marquee brands are loved for their performance by millions of customers and critics alike. These pioneering brands will continue to play a prominent role in our future product portfolio.”

Together, these 4 cars diesel options have managed to register sales of over 29 lakh till date in India. “As a small gesture of our gratitude to the admirers and prospective buyers, we are offering a free 5-year, 1-lakh km warranty on the entire diesel line up of these models to ensure a worry-free ownership experience,” added Mr. Srivastava.
