Free screening of biopic “72 Hours, Martyr who never died”, at Garhwal Bhawan on 3rd February

Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha, the biggest representative social organisation of people of Garhwali origin living in Delhi is screening, free of cost, Bollywood biopic ” 72 Hours – the martyr who never died” at its Delhi’s Bhagirathi auditorium of Garhwal Bhawan on 3rd February as a mark of tribute to this great soldier, a symbol of outstanding bravery and enormous valour who sacrificed his precious life, valiantly fighting the Chinese in the 1962 Indo China battle of NURANG in Arunachal Pradesh for incessantly seventy two hours and finally killing 300 soldiers.

Honoured with the most coveted award Mahavir Chakra by the president of India posthumously, late Jaswant Singh’s mother died at the age of ninety this year.

This historic biopic with a mega budget of several crores has been produced by Prasheel Rawat and directed by Avinash Dhyani. These producer, director along with assistent director Dhananjay Dhyani n other main actors viz Abhishekh Chandola and Satish Chandra Raturi etc will also be present on this ocassion.

According to the office bearers of GHS M. S. Rana and Pawan Maithani, the screening of the film will be free of cost in order to accquaint the audience about the sacrifice of the martyrs who laid down their precious lives at just an age of 25 for the country, fighting its enemy valiantly for three days under extreme odd n challenging situations n circumstances at the Nurang post in Arunachal Pradesh.

It may be recalled that Jaswant Singh who was serving in 4th Garhwal Rifles battallion as a soldier was fighting the Nurang war on 17th January, 1962 when the Garhwal Rifles had beaten back two Chinese Army attacks on their positions.

On the third attack the MMG of the Chinese Peoples’ Liberation Army was accurately firing at Indian position having come quite in close proximity.

Seeing the situation having gone against the Indian Army with lots of casualty, young n brave Jaswat Singh Rawat of the fourth Garhwal Rifles alongwith Lance Naik Trilok Singh Rawat and Rifleman Gopal Singh offered themselves to risk their lives and silence the Chinese Light Machine Gun which have proved Havoc to the India soldiers at the post in Nurang, Arunachal Pradesh.

While Trilok Singh gave both Jaswant Singh and Gopal Singh Gusain the covering fire , both of them forcibly seized the MMG by throwing grenades and destroying the Chinese detachment of five men.

It is said that after destroying this Chinese LMG n the soldiers manning it , while coming back Jaswant Singh and Trilok Singh were brutally injured n killed while Gopal Singh Gusain was grievously injured. However, he managed to return with the captured Chinese LMG.

Rifleman Jaswant Singh, Trilok Singh n Gusain fought the battle so valiantly for three days in continuance under extreme critical situations n circumstances single handedly without food and water that three hundred Chinese soldiers were killed in this battle of Nurang.

However, India lost two soldiers Jaswant Singh n Trilok Singh with 8 grievously wounded. A memorial in memory of this brave soldier was built in Nurang by the Garhwal Rifles where soldiers and officers pay respects to the departed sould every day in the morning as well in the evening.

Late Jaswant Singh’s uniforms are ironed daily, his boots polished and he gets promotions as others get.

He has now been elevated to the rank of major. It is believed that Jaswant’s soul still protects the post. He has been given the status of a diety. The Chinese government has lauded the outstanding bravery of this valiant soldier n had presented his Bronze head to the India government revealing that he was the one who killed three hundred Chinese soldiers single handedly fighting them with valour for 72 hours continuously.
