After almost two years since Google launched the Google Home Mini, a small hockey-puck shaped smart speaker that delivered a powerful sound and brought the Google Assistant to every nook and cranny of the house, Google has finally released an update to its Nest Mini smart speaker.

Google has launched the Nest Mini smart speaker earlier this week at its Made by Google 2019 event in New York. It features several upgrades over its predecessor not just in terms of the sound but also in terms of smartness and design as well.

Since Google has decided to bring all its smart home products under the Nest branding, it’s being called the Nest Mini. The Nest Mini features a design that is similar to the Home Mini. It looks the same and it features the same dimensions.

There is a small change that Google has made to Nest Mini. The second generation of its mini smart speaker comes with a wall-mount design that enables you to hang on any wall without requiring to purchase a third-party wall mount.

The Google Home Mini was launched in three shades – Chalk, Charcoal, and Coral. On the other hand, Nest Mini comes in four color variants, apart from the 3 shades, Nest Mini also gets a splash of Blue.

Interestingly, Nest Mini gets capacitive touch controls which enables you to silent alarm clocks or play/pause songs simply by tapping on the top of the smart speaker.

Nest Mini comes with a dedicated machine learning chip that allows Google Assistant to process a lot of your data directly on the Nest Mini smart speaker. It also makes the Google Assistant tad a bit faster.

According to Google, Nest Mini would learn your most common commands and process them locally on the device in the US, which means that it would probably not rely on internet connectivity and Google’s data centers if you frequently use it for things like checking the time.

Nest Mini gets a better sound compared to Home Mini. The Home Mini came with a two-microphone array, Nest Mini takes that to three.

Google says that it has upgraded the hardware and software of Nest Mini to improve the overall sound quality, particularly the bass. Now, the company doesn’t mention the exact wattage, but it says that the Nest Mini has 40 percent better bass than the Home Mini smart speaker.
