How to Encourage the Bowel Movement?
Table of Contents
Many people suffer from constipation, which is one of the most common health disorders. There are several non-medical methods or home remedies to encourage the dormant gut to relieve the patient from constipation.
Here are some of the ways that encourage inactive gut to get back to normal.
Lemon juice
Drink a glass of water by adding the juice of half a lemon into it before bed as well as in the morning first thing in an empty stomach. If you have a sensitive tooth, you can use a straw to drink this lemon water.
Olive oil
Consumption of a teaspoon of olive oil in the morning on an empty stomach may encourage stool to pass through the gut. Olive oil serves as a lubricant in the digestive system making it easier for solids to slide through.
Prune juice/dried prunes
This is one among the most traditional remedies for constipation. Although prune juice lacks the fibre of the dried fruit, both are high in sorbitol content, which serves as a laxative.
Stewed apricots
Deseed the apricots and chop it. Then, put in a saucepan along with 2 to 3 tablespoons of brown sugar. Then, add two tablespoons of water and turn the flame on low-medium. Stew the apricots until they soften. Then turn off the flame and leave it with a lid on to cool. These are delicious for breakfast and tastes wonderful with yoghurt and granola.
Fluids
Aim for 2.5 litres or 10 to 12 glasses of water a day to ensure cleansing your system and helping to break down food in the gut. A tall glass of hot water works great for settling the stomach and encouraging the peristaltic movement.
Hot beverages
Most of the people enjoy a tea or coffee as refreshment, however, they do have a diuretic effect. Diuretics boost the production of urine. This also helps in a similar way as hot water, where the heat helps to break down solids.
Avoid Fatty foods
Try to stay away from foods with high-fat content. Though in the case of fatty foods, the bile producing gallbladder helps to break down the fat.
