Huawei gets DoT invitation to take part in 5G trials in India
Chinese telecom giant Huawei on October 5 said it had received an invitation from Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to take part in the trials for the development of 5g use cases in India. Reportedly, Huawei has received an official invitation from DoT on September 27. The Telecom gear maker has submitted their proposal and now waiting for reply from the department.
Earlier, Huawei and ZTE excluded from 5g trials in India
Huawei’s participation in India’s 5g rollout process has been eagerly observed after the reports last months that suggested that the company, along with another Chinese player ZTE, was eliminated from the list of companies that were included by DoT to participate in 5g trials in the country.
DoT also approached Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, Cisco and NEC for 5g trials
Earlier, DoT reached out to other market leaders like Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, Cisco and NEC for development of 5g applications and running trials on the recommendations of Professor of Stanford University, Emeritus Arogyaswami J Paulraj.
Commercial rollout of 5g is expected in 2020
Reportedly, Huawei could start the trials for 5g use cases as early as the end of this year and the trials could run for 2-3 weeks. In the beginning of this year, Huawei conducted 5g trials in laboratory with Bharti Airtel in India where it achieved broadband speed of more than 3 Gbps in 3.5 GHz spectrum band. Huawei trial for 5g use cases would be focused on areas like enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), fixed wireless access, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and wireless to the x (WTTx), an advanced wireless broadband access solution proposed by Huawei, among others. The commercial launch of 5g is expected to take place in the year 2020 in India.
