The Hyundai compact sedan will share underpinnings with the Grand i10 Nios. It is expected to replace the Hyundai Xcent in India.

It is likely to be launched in the first half of 2020. A test mule of a compact sedan based on the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios was spied testing recently. According to reports, the new compact sedan will be a replacement for the Hyundai Xcent, which is currently on sale in India. Further, the new compact sedan is expected to carry a new nameplate, while the Xcent will continue to co-exist, albeit in lower trims.

It makes sense for both the cars to co-exist as Hyundai has opted for a similar approach for the Grand i10. The current Hyundai Xcent is a good option for cab aggregators.

As is apparent from the spy shots, the new Hyundai compact sedan features a front-end that is largely similar to the Grand i10 Nios. The fascia is dominated by the wide cascading grille with integrated boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, sleek projector headlights and a new bumper. In profile, the new Hyundai compact sedan will get a lower window-line with a bigger DLO and a coupe-like design for the C-pillar. The posterior is highlighted by split-LED taillights and a redesigned bumper, which houses the number-plate holder.

Although the interiors of the new Hyundai compact sedan aren’t visible, it is expected to feature a cabin that is similar to the Grandi10 Nios. So, expect it to get a floating touchscreen infotainment system with ARKAMYS music system, a large MID, automatic climate control and much more. It is safe to assume that the compact sedan will come with the Hyundai Blue Link connectivity suite.

Under the hood, the new Hyundai compact sedan will employ BS-VI compliant 1.2-liter petrol and diesel engines. Gearbox options on offer will be a five-speed manual and a Smart Auto AMT.

Prices may range between Rs 6-9 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, sometime in the first half of 2020, it will rival against the likes of Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Aspire, and the Tata Tigor.
