What Is Intellectual Property & What Are Intellectual Property Rights?
Intellectual property” is a product of the human intellect that includes a variety of creations such as literary works, technological inventions, performances, traditional practices, etc.
Intellectual property rights (IPRs) play a key role in every sector and have become the basis for crucial investment decisions. All such rights that accrue to a person from the creation of intellectual property are known as “Intellectual Property Rights”.
In India, Intellectual Property Rights recognized under the statute are:
The Copyright Act, 1957;
The Patents Act, 1970;
The Designs Act, 2000;
The Trade Marks Act, 1999;
The Biological Diversity Act, 2002;
The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Act, 2001;
The Semiconductor Integrated Circuits Layout Design Act, 2000;
The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999.
