Is Mayawati creating fissures in opposition unity intentionally to help the saffron party?
The recent announcement by the Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati followed by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, both former chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh and now foe turned friends, that they will have no alliance with Congress Party in any state of the country is definitely a news to rejoice with, for the BJP.
Today the ruling party BJP n its leaders, especially the prime minister Narendra Modi and BJP supremo Amit Shah would be the happiest persons.
Just a few days ago, the father of SP chief Akhilesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav, had also, while speaking in parliament surprised and shocked the entire anti BJP opposition when he said that he heartily wishes that Prime minister Narendra Modi again becomes the prime minister of the country.
Sounds ironical that parties like SP n BSP and its leaders who call themselves as the sole protectors of the rights of the minorities, SC’s n the backwards in the country on the one hand shout from roof tops about their secular credentials n progressive outlook and on the other, clandestinely shake hands with the Hindu minded parties like BJP by keeping away strong secular parties like Congress, say their detractors.
This hypocritical action, attitude and posture of BSP chief Bahan Mayawati n SP chief Akhilesh Yadav speaks of their double standards and sheer political opportunism while talking of forming a mahagathbandan to defeat the communal BJP led NDA whose juggernaut is being driven by none other but charismatic Narendra Modi say political analysts.
The Bhartiya Janata Party that came to power at the centre n thereafter in states , now reduced to 17, after losing three states to Congress, always got the advantage of Hindu polarisation n division in the opposition vote bank.
The Congress party led by Rahul Gandhi had always been at the forefront to strengthen the anti BJP Mahagathbandhan alongwith TMC chief Mamta Benerjee, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, former PM n JD chief H. D. Devegowda, Andhra CM Chandra Babu Naidu n others – but the BSP supremo Mayavati n SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had always been working against the opposition unity internally though pretending to be positive externally.
However, Mayavati’s actual colours were witnessed when she went alone by breaking the pre poll alliance with Congress in Madhya Pradesh n Chattisgarh forming alliance with the regional party of Ajit Jogi’s Janata Congress securing merely one seat of an MLA shamefully.
Actually Mayawati’s track record has always been that of a deceitful politician. She is over ambitious for power and position who’d allegedly amassed huge wealth from party fund n donations from the rich.
A disproportionate asset case , a case of Taj Corridor are already going on in Apex courts against both the BSP and the SP leaders though currently in cold storage.
In a recent judgement the Supreme Court has asked BSP chief Mayawati to pay the costs of the entire elephant statues built in Lucknow during her tenure to the government from her own pocket or party fund. The amount to be deposited is staggering 4000 crores.
Under such circumstances any leader can stand in support for the party that comes to power after the hustings n political analysts say that may be, in view of these compulsions, difficulties or circumstances Bahan Mayawati may be compelled to betray the opposition n help the saffron party though indirectly by keeping Congress Party out of the BSP, SP, RLD alliance or not entertaining Congress in any other states in future.
This act of Mayawati n Akhilesh certainly leads to weakening of the anti BJP opposition unity at the national level particularly when defeating BJP is a united challenge for all the opposition parties n when BJP chief Amit Shah n PM Modi are fully active at a pan India level in their election campaigns downgrading and accusing the Mahagathbandhan as a scattered n spent force whose only aim is to dethrone Modi n capture power.
It may be recalled that after the air strike on the terror camps in Pakistan n wing commander Abhinandan’s easy and safe return from Pak’s captivity the country is full of ultra nationalist feelings compounded with consistent positive coverage of Prime minister Narendra Modi on television channels with majority of them speaking the saffron party’s language.
Under such circumstances, the unity of the entire non BJP opposition n the regional forces at the pan India level is an inevitability to avoid division of anti BJP votes, but the way Mayavati n Akhilesh Yadav are nurturing over ambition to become prime minister from the opposition camp – post election or trying to help the BJP, creating rift n deflection in opposition votes by going alone, it seems that the BJP led NDA is returning to power in June 2019 by all means.
There’s is not an inkling of doubt that if need be, the BSP n SP may side with BJP/ NDA but never support the Congress led Grand Alliance.
It may be reacalled that post Babri Masjid demolition in UP the BSP held a post election alliance with BJP when Mayawati was installed as the UP CM.
Today, it’s being asked : Is Mayawati delibetately creating fissures in opposition unity to help the saffron party?
What’s your take friends?
