J. Akbar who was compelled to put in his papers as the state minister of External Affairs.
However, Akbar had hired some quite an influential lawyers to contest his case which he’d filed against the first journalist Priya Ramani who’d accused him of the alleged sexual harrasment when he was the chief editor of the prestigious newspaper The Asian Age. Though about 17 women journalists have stood by Ramani’s side to testify against Akbar.
Since the start of the MeToo campaign which was vastly popularised in the social media, several bollywood actress have come out in favour of the campaign including the senior journalist Barkha Dutt terming this platform as the best option for the victimised women to raise their voice with courage and valour.
One of the popular actresses Jaqueline Fernandiz who was in relationship with film producer and actor Sazid Khan, has also been accused of alleged sexual harrasment in the MeToo campaign. Even renowned music director Annu Malik was blamed similarly by one of the actresses, the allegatiin denied by the former.
Sajid Khan has been accused by three women a journalist who went to seek his interview Ms Upadhyay and two actors viz Saloni Chopra and Rachel White. White has complained that Sajid asked her to strip in hishouse which the actress outrightly refused. Horrible, shameful n disgusting indeed.
Recently in an interview to the IANS news service prominent actress Jaqueline Fernandiz has come out in the open to support the Me too movement saying that sexual predators are present everywhere and that the dialogues about gender issues are long overdue not just in Bollywood but in the society as well.
In an interview published in HT city, reacting to the MeToo campaign in India the actor said : it’s very significant to remember that the gender dialogue is a coversation that’s long over due and let us not limit it to our fim industry. It is a dialogue which has been long overdue in our society as well. Unfortunately the sad truth is that the sexual predators are all around us.
Jaqueline Fernadiz is today counted amongst the most popular bollywood actors drawing a vast fan following with her movies going super hits.
Prominent actors like Anupam Kher, Rajat Kapoor, Sajid Khan Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, Subhash Ghai, painter Jatin Dass etc have so far been targetted in this campaign creating news headlines and lot of controversy in the media, Bollywood n the political corridors.
Giving her strong reaction against sexual harrasment of women Jaqueline says these sexual predators are sometimes in our own households, so we should not deviate from the actual issue which is not entirely about sex but is about power struggle. Therefore we have to be serious about it, if we want solutions, if we really want safe workplace for everyone and for the society.
The MeeToo campaign though had witnessed accusations by several actresses against some of the leading actors of Bollywood but in the case of M.J Akbar, a veteran journalist and the then union minister , the controversy created tremendous furore in the political and journalistic circles of India putting the position of BJP in quandary who’s spokespersons had to come out to defend him initially but finally asking him to resign as the controversy blew out of proportion and the ruling political dispensation has to draw a sorry figure as women’s safety n Beti Bachao Beti Padhao objectives of the ruling party were being affected by the allegations of sexual assault by 11 women journalists against the then minister of the ruling party. What’s your take friend ?
