While the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate is set to hear the JNU sedition case, the Delhi Police may again have to wait for action, as the Delhi government has delayed the process of giving sanction to prosecute Kanahiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban and six others in the JNU sedition case.
It is likely that Delhi Police special cell will go to the court and inform the chief metropolitan magistrate that sanction has not yet been given. As the file is with Satyender Jain, who heads the Home department, but, has not yet given a go head to the Delhi police.
Delhi Police say they have not yet been informed why Delhi government has not yet given the sanction.
Earlier, the Delhi Police was pulled up by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) for filing the chargesheet in the controversial case without taking any sanction to which the Delhi Police had informed the court that within ten days sanction will be given.
But the Delhi Chief Minister was quick to react on Twitter and had taken on the BJP and questioned why sedition chargesheet was filed, when high profile criminals are roaming scotfree.
“Why did you file (the charge sheet) without approval? You don’t have a legal department?,” chief metropolitan magistrate Deepak Sherawat had asked the police.
The police had submitted a 1,200-page charge sheet in the Patiala House court on 14th January 2019 over a JNU event held on February 9, 2016 to protest against the hanging of the 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
