Jon Snow has bent the knee
Fans of Game of Thrones certainly know that a wedding in the show does not always end well. That is why, the announcement that two of the series’ stars, Kit Harington and Rose Leslie, are to marry was received with hopes for a happy wedding rather than the bloody infamous ‘Red Wedding’ from the series. They had become firm favourites with Game of Thrones fans, with all the credit going to their cracking on-screen chemistry.
The couple announced their engagement in The Times newspaper on Wednesday, September 27th. Benedict Cumberbatch who played Sherlock Holmes and also Dr. Strange, had announced his wedding in the very same British fashion back in 2014.
Once on-screen lovers in Game of Thrones , now the ‘The King in the North’ Jon Snow and Ygritte, the rebellious & headstrong ‘wildling’ are going to walk down the aisle, hand in hand.
Leslie was killed in a tearful scene in season four of the series, but her relationship with Kit Harington remained strong in the real world. The pair is believed to have been dating for at least five years. The couple last appeared together in the final episode of season four, as a heartbroken Jon Snow drags Ygritte’s lifeless body into a snow-covered forest before placing her body in a funeral pyre after she died in his arms in the previous episode.
“You know nothing, Jon Snow.” This is one of the most frequently quoted and fondly remembered catchphrase among fans. But since they are set to marry the internet is awash with gags quoting, ‘Jon Snow must know something’ & that ‘Jon Snow has bent the knee.’
Under the names Mr KC (i.e. Kit Catesby) Harington and Miss RE (i.e. Rose Eleanor) Leslie, the notice in The Times reads: “The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire.”
Both are 30 years old, and confirmed they were an item in early 2016. During the month of May, Harington revealed they had moved in together and they were, quote, “very, very happy”, but he gave no further detail about the relationship.
Scottish actor Rose Eleanor Leslie found fame as the housemaid Gwen Dawson in ‘Downton Abbey,’ while Londoner Kit Catesby Harington continues his role as Jon Snow in what will be the final and eighth season in 2018.
