The resignation of  Congress president Rahul Gandhi taking accountability for the party’s drubbing at the hustings has compelled some other senior and young party leaders to follow suit.

While Congress general secretary and Incharge Assam Harish Rawat had resigned a day or two after Rahul’s quitting the top slot, the two important pillars of Congress too resigned today taking accountability of defeat on their shoulders.
These two youthful leaders are, the national general secretary of Congress, incharge of Eastern Uttar Pradesh Jyotiraditya Scindia and the Mumbai Congress chief Milind  Deora.
The Congress general secretary Scindia announced his resignation today saying that he had resigned a week before and handed over the letter to the then party chief Rahul Gandhi but thought of officially and publicly declaring  it as news about my resignation had appeared in newspapers today.
Scindia tweeted after resigning : Accepting the peoples’ verdict and taking accountability, I had submitted my resignation as general secretary of AICC to Sh. @ Rahul Gandhi. I thank him for entrusting me with this responsibility and for giving me the opportunity to serve our party.
It may be recalled that Jyotiraditya Scindia had worked  hard during the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections and was immensely instrumental in the party’s victory during the 2018 assembly elections defeating the 15 year old BJP government.
Scindia was however neither made the CM nor the deputy CM of the stae despite his dedicated services as he being Rahul Gandhi’s closest friend and leiutenant, his services were required at the national party forum by the then Congress chief.
Rahul Gandhi had entrusted him the  onerous task to revive and strengthen Congress in the largest state of the country, Uttar Pradesh alongwith Priyanka Gandhi who was enshrined the responsibility of Eastern UP and he the charge of Western region.
But inspite the best efforts of both Jyotiraditya Scindia and Priyanka Gandhi the Congress party suffered badly in Uttar Pradesh merely  winning a single seat with Rahul Gandhi himself losing from his family’s pocket borough in Amethi.
On the other hand Murli Deora resigned as Mumbai Congress chief taking the accountability of the party’s defeat in Maharahtra and Mumbai following suit after Rahul’s quitting as Congress chief.
The Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan had already resigned while Deora resigned today.
While resigning Milind Deora hoped to work at the national level to regalvanise the party inviting strong criticism from the sr Congress leader  and party’s former Mumbai chief Sanjay Nirupam.
Taking a swipe at Milind Deora’s decision to step down as Mumnai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam said that the resignation is being used as a ladder to climb tweeted Times Now.
The former Congress chief Nirupam  also criticized the suggestion of Milind Deora asking the party high command to form a three leader panel to run the Mumbai Congress organisational affairs.
Strongly slamming Deora for his suggestion Nirupam said a party organisation is always led by a leader.
Congress is not a corporate house to be run by board of directors added Sanjay Nirupam.
He voiced his resentment to the party high command as well.
It may be recalled that the elections in Maharashtra are due in three months from now and the Congress party is headless both in Maharashtra as well as in Mumbai.
The BJP, Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress party have already started the preparations for the assembly polls in Mahashtra while the Congress is still in doldrums having lost badly in the state in the general elections.
The party in the absence of the Mumbai chief as well as Maharashtra president compounded with intercine squabbles seems to be in jeopardy.
Moreover in Karnataka too it’s confronted with a rebellion with 11 of its MLAs becoming dissident having submitted letters of resignation to the speaker thus giving an opportunity of advantage to BJP to form its government.
Not only this but at the national level too after Rahul’s resignation there seems to be a leadership vaccum at the top with an alternative president not decided till date. The Congress Working Committee is expected to take place next week to decide the fate of a new president outside the Nehru Gandhi family.
The question however still exists whether the new incumbent would be able to regalvanise the party or not. It’s really a huge question mark ? What’s your take friends ?
