Launched in 2004 and completed in 2018, Kejrival inaugurates the 254 metres high Signature bridge today

The much talked about Signature bridge, twice the height of the iconic Qutab Minar, the medieval times’ historic moghul era’s heightest marvel has today been finally inaugurated by the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejrival in the presence of the Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, the Delhi cabine and various lawmakers amidst lot of pushes n counter pushes inflicted on the Delhi BJP president and trans Yamuna, East Delhi MP Tiwari by AAP supporters who till yesterday had been complaining of not having been extended the invitation, intentionally, by the Delhi government.

The Deputy CM finally extended the invitation on his twitter handle, after realizing the deliberate blunder. The height of the signature bridge whose foundation and part construction was started during the tenure of Congress government’s chief minister Shiela Dikshit before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games, posesses the unique height just more than double of Qutub Minar situated at Mehrauli.

Qutub Minar is 73 metre in height being the highest building earlier constructed several centuries ago when there was not technology available. On the top of the Signature bridge a transparent glass box measuring 22 metres have been fixed through which the visitors could watch the outside world and enjoy the beauty from the unusual top.

About four elevators have been installed to reach here through which atleast 50 people can reach the glass box at a time.

According to a senior official, the elevators would start functioning / operating with sixty days. This bridge will, while on the one hand provide immense relief to the too and fro commuters of the primitive Wazirabad iron bridge built during the British era and has now become outmoded, it will also connect the Wazirabad Road with Karnal bypass including accord tremendous relief to the people of Bhajanpura, Loni, Bagpat, Khajuri, Mukerji Nagar, Timar pur, Buradi, people going through Azadpur, Sonipat and Western Uttar Pradesh.

Till now a vast population commuting through the primitive Wazirabad bridge were constrained to waste their precious one hour or more on daily basis, creating hell of a traffic snarls thus leading to infinite inconvenience to the commuters.

The signature bridge will also take off a considerable traffic load from the Kashmiri Gate and ISBT sides. Built at the total cost of Rupees 1518. 37 crores Signature Bridge is 251 metres in height, even more than the height of the statue of Sardar recently inaugurated in Gujarat. The height of the pyelone of this bridge would be 154 metres. It has 19 stay cables on which the bridge is depending. The project of the bridge was sanctioned in 2004, to be completed before the 2010 Commonwealth games but got delayed due to various unavoidable reasons. The bridge is an outstanding example of the world class architecture which got entangled in various controversies and therefore delayed escalating its costs to whopping Rs. 1594 crores.
