The elimination of the CPM government in its traditional left bastion i. e. Tripura at the hands of the BJP and its election ally Indeginous Peoples Front gives an unambiguous impresson that the political influence of the left is rapidly fading in the country and the prime minister Narendra Modi’s Jaggernaut of saffronisation and development crushing the non BJP opposition incessantly. There seems to be a one sided saffron wave for an urge for outright change.

Today, after losing Tripura where the left party CPM was ruling the state for more than twenty years under the command of the most honest chief minister Manik Sarkar, it has now been confided to just one state of the Southern India, Kerala. The final results show the BJP having almost won in 44 seats, where as the ruling CPM has to satisfy with merely 15 seats. Tripura assembly consists of total 60 seats with elections held in 59 seats. Political analysts say that while the BJP victory was primarily due to Modi charisma and urge for change since the left ruled the tiny state for more than two decades, the blame also goes to the CPM’s central leadership who instead of going for the widespread anti BJP alliance at the national and regional levels, have always considered the BJP and Congress its formidable political enemies on equal footing thus resulting in division of votes and given handle to BJP to come out victorious. The left had never taken Congress into confidence nor has openly sided with it on countering communalism unitedly thus giving an added advantage to the ruling party.

Had there been a Congress, left and anti BJP alliance in Tripura the situation would have been quite different and more credible than meeting the sad end of the left government led by a CM of impeccable integrity and transparent image. While for the BJP its the day of celebrations, for the CPM and Congress its again a dooms day. Today the ruling party has won hands down in the 21st state after coming to power in 2014 incessantly, under Modi’s prime ministership. Manik Sarkar’s defeat is an end of an era of pokitics of integrity, ethics, morals and principles. It may be recalled that during the 2013 assembly polls the BJP lost badly .The BJP candidates then fought on 50 seats against the CPM and had lost security deposits in all the 50 seats it contested.

Therefore current victory holds tremendous significance as this would be the ruling party’s 21st victory in a row with its incessant winning spree in majority of the states. However, in Meghalaya, the Congress Party which had been at the helm of affairs for the last ten years is leading in 24 seats, having already won in nineteen assembly seats.

The political secretary to the former Congress president Ahmed Patel has already left for Megalaya to ensure that the Congress forms its government by all means. The party is in no mood to take the risk this time as during the last Goa and Arunachal Pradesh elections the party has despite winning in both the states shown leniency and as such the BJP formed its government through political manipulations and perfect management by bringing the Congress and independent MLAs to its side.
