The attacks of maneater leopards in Garhwal, Uttarakhand are still going unabated with every third day the dreadful incidents of these carnivorous animals’ invasion on human lives appearing in media creating sensation and apprehension amongst the inhabitants of Pauri Garhwal district’s Kalagarh Reserve Forest area.
These predators have become so prone to human flesh that they are now entering human settlements even during day time and making human beings their easy prey. The Paabo block and Lansdown areas are the most affected these days though incidents of maneater attacks have been frequent in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand as well.
Just a week and a half ago in the Sindhikhal forest area near Lansdowne, a maneater leopard had made a forest guard its prey by attacking him in the dense jungle and leaving his mutilated body few meters away from the point of attack. Half of his body was eaten by this dreaded maneater.
In the absence of animal flesh within the forest area, these hungry maneaters are on prowl of human flesh day and night. They have tasted human blood and flesh and have now become so horrifying that they don’t even spare people on running motorbike.
Just yesterday a 35-year man was attacked by a maneater at Daunthiyal Sindhikhal Road in Lansdown area under the jurisdiction of Pauri Garhwal district while he was driving his motorbike quite in speed, wearing a helmet.
According to the onlookers who helped the injured man by ferrying him to a local hospital, this dreaded maneater pounced on this man on Daunthiyal Sindhikhal road and attacked him on his hand by his sharp jaws injuring them badly.
The motorcyclist wearing a helmet was a courageous man who instead of feeling nervous bravely and forcibly kicked the leopard after a brief scuffle making the man-eater terrified who went into the jungle in desperation minutes after the scuffle.
The injured man who fell down unconscious after the scuffle with the man-eater was later on ferried to the nearby hospital at Kotdwar for immediate treatment.
The maneater leopard attacks have become the order of the day in the Kalagarh tiger reserve area also inhabited by village population scattered in several kilometers’ area.
But despite so much escalation in human casualties the wildlife or forest department is least worried to capture these dangerous maneaters who’ve become a great threat to human lives in the hills of Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, according to the news from New Tehri, Garhwal on Wednesday morning an injured leopard who had created terror in Padoka village of Balganga range was trapped by the officials of the forest department to the immense relief of the local populace.
Since the maneater leopard was injured who’d sought refuge on the main road of Padokha village the forest department was able to trap him on the information received by the passers-by.
Terrified by the leopard’s presence in the midst of the pathway having taken refuge by the side of a boulder, the forest officials and the local villagers kept an eye over its movement the whole night and finally trapped him.
The injured maneater was later on sent to the Zoo’s rescue center for treatment. People of the area said that this maneater had created havoc in the village and its surroundings for the last many days.

i think forest officials should provide some food to these hungary carnivors if there isnt any in the forests. Why else will they come down to villages to attack humans ?
Poor villagers might be living with fear day n night. This also shows that the population of hervibors is in the decline which reflects the state of ecological imbalance in the region.
