OnePlus 6T India price could be higher than OnePlus 6; all you need to know
OnePlus 6T, the next flagship smartphone from OnePlus, will be officially launched tomorrow. The Chinese smartphone maker is hosting an event in New York where it will officially launch the device. The announcement was initially scheduled for October 30 but the company decided to prepone it by a day after Apple announced its own event in New York on October 30.
OnePlus switched to two flagship smartphones a year strategy with the launch of OnePlus 3T in 2016. OnePlus 6T comes just five months after the launch of OnePlus 6 in May and it has huge shoes to fill after most critics believed that it is almost impossible to make a better smartphone without increasing the price. The launch event is scheduled to start at 11AM EDT (or 8.30PM IST) in New York.
The company had also scheduled a simultaneous launch event in New Delhi on October 30 but did not reschedule it for October 29. Following its global launch in New York, the company will introduce the smartphone for the Indian market on October 30. The India launch event is also scheduled to start at 8.30PM IST and will be streamed live on its YouTube channel.
OnePlus 6T, when it becomes official tomorrow in New York, will be hardly new to those following the smartphone. The upcoming flagship has leaked in the form of renders, live images and in the process, revealing complete specifications of the device. There is nothing new in terms of upgrade and it will be aimed at those still stuck with their OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T or OnePlus 5 models.
In terms of design, the OnePlus 6T is expected to feature the same metal and glass sandwich design, we saw for the first time on the OnePlus 6. At the front, it is rumored to feature a 6.4-inch AMOLED display, which will be larger than 6.28-inch screen seen on the OnePlus 6 and feature a teardrop notch, which will be narrower than the notch seen on its predecessor. At the back, there will be same dual rear camera setup but OnePlus is dropping the fingerprint sensor placed below it.
This year, OnePlus 6T will launch with an in-display fingerprint sensor, also seen on phones from its sister brand Vivo and other Chinese smartphone makers including Xiaomi and Huawei. It is not clear whether the in-display fingerprint sensor on the OnePlus 6T will be as fast as the traditional sensor placed on the front or rear of the device. It is a bold move from a company that has promised to offer meaningful updates every six months.
In terms of hardware, the OnePlus 6T will get the same Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB or 256GB internal storage. It will retain the same dual rear camera setup with 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel sensors and a 16-megapixel selfie shooter. One of the big changes is expected to come in the form of larger 3,700mAh battery and support for fast dash charge technology.
OnePlus CEO has already confirmed that it will run Android 9 Pie out of the box and will be available from T-Mobile in the US for the first time. It is also set to drop the 3.5mm audio jack and popular case maker dbrand tweeted that it has cases ready for the smartphone. It is expected to start at $579 in the US and could be available at a starting price of Rs 34,999 or slightly higher in India.
