Apple To Pay $500M For Patent Infringement
A jury in Texas has ordered the mobile company leader, Apple to pay $502.8 million for infringing on the software company’s VirnetX patent.
As per Bloomberg’s report, the patent infringement applies to unpaid royalties for VPN on Demand taht is a service that enables the users to connect to a VPN via iPhone or iPad.
VirnetX had claimed for $700 million, while, Apple asserted for $113 million, based on 19 cents in compensation per unit. However, the jury’s final decision ended up at 84 cents per unit.
Earlier, Apple was ordered to pay $440 million to VirnetX with regard to a dispute over communication security technology. The two firms have been in legal disputes since a decade.
Additionally, in August a Chinese firm tried to ban all Apple products from sale (excluding Apple Pencil) based on alleged patent infringements.
