PAURI GARHWAL’S late Neha Negi’s family should get Rs 50 lakhs as monetary compensation, demand’s UJF

Resentment and disenchantment is brewing up amongst the various social organisations of the capital and Uttarakhandies living here n even in Uttarakhand against the incumbent state political dispensation about not giving any sort of financial compensation to the highly traumatic and bereaved family of the Nirbhaya of Pauri, Garhwal, Uttarakhand merely 18 year old Neha Negi who was most diabolically murdered by sprinkling petrol and immolating her on the way by a psycho.

After confirming from the media office of the UK CM at Uttarakhand Sadan, New Delhi a source revealed that though some announcement was made regarding the monetary compensation by the state government but they are still unaware about the exact amount and whether it has been delivered to the bereaved family of Neha Negi or not.

The first year BSc student succumbed to her 80% burn injuries at the burns ward in Safdarjung hospital a week ago.

A beautiful and sombre 18 year old Neha Negi was being stalked for several days by a thirty year old married man who finally immolated her out of frustation after this brave girl shrugged of the criminal’s enticements n scolded her number of times.

The criminal however have been caught and has agreed about the crime committed by him. This is one of the worst n rarest of the rare cases in the history of Uttarakhand of a teenager being immolated pre strategically in a one sided love affair of ( by) a maniac.

Entire Uttarakhand was in the state of shock and disenchantment after the commissioning of this abominable murder in broad day light with the law enforcing agencies, the powerless revenue police of Garhwal becoming a mere spectator.

It really sounds shocking that even after the lapse of more than twenty days after the commissioning of the crime and a week after the sad demise of a merely 18 year old daughter, not a single money has been acknowleged by the bereaved family as financial compensation from the state government, despite the hard fact that in such cases of despicable murders after sexual assaults, the government of the day is bound to make official announcement of an adequate sum of monetary compensation to the victims family in distress, on the spot.

The union government has already allocated about 3100 crores in the Nirbhaya Fund launched by the union government in 2012-13 and there is also a provision to expedite such matters through fast track courts to punish the guilty stringently as well as grant of financial compensation through the National or State level legal services authorities.

The Uttarakhand Womens’ Commission comes into the picture to get the matter processed in the court through its empanelled lawyers to fast track justice, but it seems that the UWC is hardly worried about such matters. It seems to be the most lethargic women body in the country say some of the affected women on the condition of anonymity.

Besides this, there is the chief minister’s discreationery fund which could have allocatted a hefty amount as monetory compensation to the bereaved family having lost their only affectionate daughter.

This is highly uncalled for. It may be recalled that in the case of the Nirbhaya of Delhi that raised national n international outrage n attention with excessive media hype, not only had the union government amended laws of rape to apply strong deterrent on murdurers n rapists but it also launched the Nirbhaya fund to finance the instruments dealing with such dreaded criminals including granting of adequate financial compensation to the victims’ already distressed and traumatised families.

Not only the family of Delhi Nirbhaya acknowleged best attention, a house to live in n maximum financial compensation but the Nirbhaya of Nazafgarh Kiran Negi’s family too got Rs. 7 lakhs a financial compensation from.the government of Uttarakhand at the initiative of Uttarakhand Journalists Forum, the compensation amount initially sanctioned by the then CM Vijay Bahuguna and thereafter stamped by Harish Rawat as the next CM.

However in the present case of Nirbhaya of Pauri, not a single penny has been allocated to the bereaved family. This is aweful n highly uncalled for as well. The Uttarakhand Journalists Forum n Parvatiya Lok Vikas Samittee requests the chief minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat to personally intervene in this matter and sanction a hefty financial compensation of at least Rs. 25 to 50 lakhs to the bereaved family of late Neha Negi who had a bright future and would have earned crores of Rupees during her lifetime had she been fortunate enough to survive this tragic death.

Just four days ago a delegation comprising of some socio political activists n journalists that included Manoj Istwal, me, Dr. Bacheti, Digmohan Negi, Roshni Chamoli n Ganesh Khugsal had met the Rajya Sabha MP from Garhwal and the head of the Media department of BJP Anil Baluni.  The representatives of the delegation requested Baluni amongst other things to take up the matter of granting maximum financial compensation to the family of the deceased Neha Negi giving him the logic that since there are the BJP governments at both the state and the centre doing the needful in this context would be quite an easy affair but unfortunately nothing seems to have been expedited in this regard till date.
