The political crisis in the Karnataka episode has deepened further with the lone independent MLA also sending his resignation to the speaker who was supporting the JD(S) Congress alliance government alongwith 14 other Congress n JD (S) MLAs holed up in Hotel Sofietal in Mumbai. Meanwhile all the Congress and JD S) ministers in Karnataka government has submitted their resignation letters to the Congress president of Karnataka including the deputy chief minister.
Out of the total 22 minister 9 are from JD(S) and the rest of Congress. The crisis has further aggravated deeply because now after the withdrawal of support of the lone independent MLA the tally of both opposition BJP and JDS and Congress combine has come to 105 in the Karnataka assembly.
A definite tie. Sources reveal that the Congress has asked for the resignation of its ministers perhaps to accomodate the annoyed rebels who had been complaining of not being made ministers. But the way the dissidents are hell bent upon being obstinate of not taking back their resignations and supposedly supporting the BJP, it seems that the Karnataka government is indeed in a very precarious situation.
The Bhartiya Janata Party has also convened its legislature party in the even at Bengaluru to take stock of the latest development in Karnataka. Sources reveal that the saffron party is trying to take all possible advantage of the crisis situation and is trying its best to woo the dissident MLAs on its side.
The Congress party leader Mallikarjun Kharge has already accused the BJP of scuttling democracy and enginerring defections in the present Karnataka government against favours ofmoney and ministerial berths in their new government likely to be formed in the state.
The union defence minister Rajnath Singh has however refuted the Congress paryy’s allegation as baseless and concocted while speaking in the lok sabha. Singh saidthat BJPnever believes in horse trading or changibg governments through purchading of MLAs as it is against the constitutional and democratic norms.
He outrightly condemned the Congress party’s allegations and said that it isthey not the BJP who engineers defection and resort to undemocratic and unconstitutional means to change state governments arbitrarily.
Meanwhile there seems to be possibility of the physical floor test in front of the governor to prove as to which party actually posesses majority to form the next government in the Southern state. There are also possibilities of accomodating the disenchanted lawmakers of KD (S) and Congress in the new ministry formation so that they return back and take back their resignations.
The Congress and JD(S) leaderships are making all possible arrangements to contact the dissidents and bring them to negotiating table, but will it really happen remains to be seen. The latest report suggest that the adamant dissident MLA, fourteen in numbers have already made up their mind to support the BJP obviously with an assurance to get ministerial berths in the next government formation of the saffron party.
