The Congress president Rahul Gandhi is still adamant to resign from the president ship of Congress party taking the moral responsibility for the party’s debacle in the recently held general elections despite the party’s highest decision making body Congress Working Committee expressing its full confidence in his leadership requesting him to continue as the national chief.

There had been tremendous media hype on this issue with BJP leaders accusing Congress party as the political organisation confined to Nehru Gandhi family giving no chance to other party leaders to take the reigns ofthe party in his or her hand. It’s sending a wrong and adverse signal amongst the masses and Congressmen at the pan India level. Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership the party has lost the 2017 state assembly elections as well as the 2019 general elections.
It also lost badly in 2014 as well when the reigns of the party were in Sonia Gandhi’s hand with Rahul Gandhi holding the position of senior vice president. As per the latest news a search for a presidential candidate is being actively done and the name of the youthful former union minister and AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik is being considered.
Wasnik is being seen as the fore runner for the president’s post in liue of Rahul Gandhi who is adamant to resign. Mukul Wasnik is from Maharashtra representing the dalit community and had been associated with the party for decades having been union minister in Rajiv Gandhi, Narsimha Rao and Dr Manmohan Singh’s cabinet.
He is primarily the product of Indian Youth Congress and NSUI.  Other important names doung the rounds for the top slot of Congress party are that of  Rajasthan’s chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Shashi Tharoor and Prithviraj Chouhan etc who are also lobbying to get the position. Earlier i.e. within the last fortnight the names of  Punjab CM Captain Amrinder Singh and Sachin Pilot, Rajasthan’s deputy CM were under active consideration but soon lost the weightage.
It is being believed that after suffering the party’s repeated drubbing three times in succession under his leadership in 2014, 2017 and 2019 general elections n assembly polls, Rahul Gandhi now want to project some other face and work actively for the party organisation as a Congress party’s leader from the back.
He want serve as a inspirational force rather than from the front as party chief. Moreover there are tremendous accusations as well by the political parties opposed to Congress especially the BJP that the Gandhi family is so badly power centric that even after losing badly at the hustings its chief Rahul instead of resigning on moral grounds is still holding the party post despite the hard fact that several of the Congress party’s state chief had tendered their resignation from their respective state party presidents’ posts.
It may be recalled that the Congress party could only enhance its seats tally in Lok Sabha by 8 numbers to 52 whereas in 2014 it had merely 44 MPs. The 135 year old party responsible for achieving freedom for India from the 200 year old British neo colonial rule not even get the leader of the opposition status in 2014 as well as in 2019.
The party in its 70 year old history post independence has never suffered so badly at the hustings as in 2014 and 2019 national elections under the leadersip of Rahul Gandhi as the party’s chief. What’s your take friends ?
